The Xbox Series X is a console that many in the gaming community have been looking forward to for years now. While it’s been in development for a while, it wasn’t until the console was officially unveiled at The Game Awards last year that fans really started to get excited for theXbox Series X. Though, sadly, the production cost of one electrical component, in particular, could lead to a rather high retail price.
As more and more news begins to surface, it’s starting to look as though the newest generation of console will be the most ambitious and impressive in terms of hardware and overall tech. The hardware and specs of the Xbox Series Xalone are especially powerful, but that means none of these parts are cheap, especially the chip used in the Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series X’s SOC contains 15.4 billion transistors, compared to the Xbox One’s chip, which only contained 6.6 billion. The amount of transistors found in the Series X’s SOC has caused the overall cost to increase well beyond theXbox One, which may increase production costs.
Developers have attempted to lower production costs by reducing the length of the SOC in the Xbox Series X, but the length is a mere 7 square millimeters, less than the Xbox One’s SOC. Due to the increase in production costs, this could lead to the cost of the Xbox Series X to be well over 500 dollars. If this is true, then it seems rather unlikely thatthe Xbox Series X will cost less than the PS5.
This news seems to indicate what many in the gaming community were already worried about: with the increase in new technology, retail costs of video games and video gaming hardware are inevitably going to increase. No to mention, game engines likeUnreal Engine 5 increasing the file sizesof various games, in exchange for increased graphical quality and presentation.
Many in the gaming community were already unhappy when companies began to announce thatnext-gen game prices would increase, so the fact that the Xbox Series X will likely cost more than the Xbox One when it first launched will most certainly upset quite a few people. Then again, it’s a fine line to walk along. Many people want to see technology continue to get better and for games to look graphically more impressive, but it’s hard to do so when the technology isn’t exactly optimized for consumers.
TheXbox Series Xis set to launch during the Holiday of 2020.
