Summary
There have been a fair few villains that have appeared throughout theResident Evilseries, but by far the most iconic and recognizable of the bunch is Albert Wesker. Thesharp-tongued and charismaticsuperhuman has been an integral character in the plot ever since the very first game in the series, and even when he doesn’t make a physical appearance in a game, his lingering influence can always be felt in one way or another.
Wesker committed a plethora of pretty despicable and evil acts to get to this position though, with him undoubtedly being one ofthe most ruthless characters in the seriesas a whole. He’s a truly frightening villain who will do anything to achieve his goals, with these being the worst things he has ever done throughout the games to obtain his god-like powers.
ThroughoutResident Evil 5, Chris and Sheva are constantly apprehended by a mysterious masked figure who they suspect is working for someone higher up, possibly Wesker. Later on during an encounter with the man himself, it’s revealed that the cloaked individual is none other thanJill Valentinewho is being controlled by Wesker through a device that he had planted on her chest.
Wesker knew that using Jill as his brainwashed ally would break down Chris emotionally, but what makes this even more sinister is that Jill was once one of Wesker’s very own allies during the Spencer Estate incident in the original game. This demonstrates that Wesker isn’t above manipulating people to aid in his plan, even if those people were once his comrades or even friends.
5Killing Spencer

Oswell E. Spencer was essentially the puppet master who had been pulling Wesker’s strings ever since he was a child. Albert wasa product of the Wesker projectwhich meant that, while he had received superhuman powers, he was also bound to the control of Spencer who, by this point, was a fragile and frail old man who was clearly losing control of his creations.
As Spencer starts talking about using his “sons” to become a god of his own, Wesker snaps and lunges towards the man, plunging his hand straight through his heart. Spencer isn’t exactly the nicest character in the series, but the fact that Wesker exterminated him as soon as he realized the old man would get in the way of his godly vision proves just how utterly ruthless he is as a character.
Lisa Trevoris one of the most unfortunate characters in the entire series, and reading documents about how she was taken from her family and experimented on really is heartbreaking. By the time players see Lisa in the first game, she’s mutated beyond recognition and seems to be roaming the dark underground chasms of the mansion in the hopes of finding her long-deceased mother.
It’s later revealed that Wesker played a huge role in this experimentation project, along with his new partnerWilliam Birkin, who’s another very dark and twisted character. Even when Wesker was trying to escape the facility once it was on self-destruct mode in theUmbrella Chronicles, he violently kills Lisa before demanding her to “Stay dead this time” which gives an insight into just how cold and merciless the S.T.A.R.S. Captain had become by this point.
3Betraying His S.T.A.R.S Comrades

The Alpha S.T.A.R.S. team that is sent to theSpencer Mansionin the originalResident Evilgoes through quite the ordeal during their exploration of the area. Each of the members comes up against some truly horrifying enemies, including the flesh-hungry zombified dogs and the menacing sharks known as Neptunes, but while it seems like these creatures were a result of an accident, it’s revealed that Wesker, who was an undercover agent, had been using his “allies” as combat data against these B.O.Ws.
This leads to a pretty dramatic and incredibly unexpected betrayal where Wesker spills the beans on the whole situation and admits that he had put all the members through a kind of horror-filled obstacle course, all for his selfish gain. What makes this especially evil is just how much of an impact it has on the S.T.A.R.S. members, not only those who died of course, but also people like Jill who struggle to get over the trauma of the incident, which fans can see is still affecting her inResident Evil 3.
Initially, it seems as though Wesker has absolutely nothing to do with the events ofCode Veronicasince the major villains areAlfred and Alexia, but Wesker is always lurking in the shadows, and it turns out that he is the perpetrator of the attack on Rockfort Island. Throughout the first few hours of the game, Claire can find plenty of letters from soldiers talking about their friends being turned into monsters and the horrific creatures that were roaming the island, and this was all Wesker’s doing.
After finding out that a T-Veronic virus was being developed on the island, Wesker ordered his H.C.F. soldiers to plant a bomb underneath the military training facility that would gradually release B.O.Ws and the T-Virus, which went on to infect nearly everyone on the island. This is one of Wesker’s most despicable acts as he wipes out hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people, just to get his hands on a strain of a particular virus.
1Preparing To Infect The World With Uroboros
It’s clear thatWesker had been gradually losing his mindthroughout the games, so by the timeResident Evil 5rolls around, he’s become more or less a comic book villain whose only goal is to be a godly ruler of the world. This is already extremely unnerving, but it’s the way Wesker goes about trying to achieve this goal that personifies just how dark, twisted, and maniacal he has become.
Wesker’s final objective was to spread a deadly virus known as Uroboros across the entire planet, which would result in nearly the entire population dying, but those who were able to live would be genetically enhanced from the infection, creating a world where only the “strong” people got to live. This is a horrific plan that he actually came quite close to pulling off, but in the process of preparing Uroboros, Wesker also experimented on thousands of innocent test subjects during his partnership with TRICELL to develop his newest virus. The fact that Wesker was even thinking about committing global genocide makes hima truly unforgivable villain, and while he luckily didn’t succeed, he still had a major role in ruining the entire country of Kijuju due to his experiments and maniacal vision of how the world should be.
