With formerWitcher 3producer Stan Just at the helm, development studio Covenant already looks to be well on its way to producing some quality releases, with the team currently having two projects in the works. The first of these was unveiled earlier today, with an action-packed trailer for aSlavic folklore-inspiredadventure game titledGordlanding on the team’s official YouTube channel.

The game will launch on PC in 2022 and is described as a single-playerstrategy experiencethat tasks players with maintaining a settlement in a dark fantasy world, ensuring their villagers have the resources to fight back against the legions of mythical beasts they co-exist with. The announcement trailer makes plenty clear thatGordwon’t be for the faint of heart, as it shows settlers being brutally massacred by horrifying monsters and engaging in blood-drenched battles against rival tribes.

According to Covenant,Gordwill mostly boil down to two elements: managing the player’s home base and forging out on expeditions. The initial half will act similarly to games likeFrostpunk, seeing players construct buildings, maintain resources, and, according to the game’s Steam page, combat insanity. The latter will apparently be a big part of the game, with settlers who’ve succumbed to madness suffering from breakdowns or fleeing the player’s base.

Away from these base-management elements, players will embark on “AI-driven quests,” where they’ll venture into the wilderness to battle against deadly creatures or solve an issue troubling the settlement. The trailer shows off a lineup of monsters players could come face to face with during these excursions, includinggiant spiders, hungry wolves, and a living tree stump that can use its roots to pick up and slam settlers. It appears players should expect to lose plenty of villagers during these battles, with the footage highlighting settlers being gruesomely eaten, feasted on by flies, and in one clip, having all their bones broken by an invisible force.

Other features include players being able to create custom scenarios to personally tailor their experience and the addition of “The Chronicle,” which will offerlore tidbitsand story content through collectible pages that have been scattered throughout the game world.Gordwill be the first of two projects coming from Covenant in the near future, with its website also teasing a mysterious second game known as “Project Perun.” The studio already looks to be doing some great work so far, withGordmaking a solid first impression through its blood-soaked debut trailer.
