Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2is, as the title suggests, a sequel to the originalWarhammer 40K: Space Marinegame. Like the original, it will feature a third-person perspective, plenty of hacking and slashing, andWarhammer 40K’sUltramarine Captain Titusas its protagonist.Space Marine 2was first unveiled at the Game Awards in 2021, surprising many fans who had assumed for a while that the olderSpace Marinewould not be getting a sequel.
In the initialSpace Marine 2reveal, fans got a look at Titus once again as he and his Space Marine companions stepped into combat against a Xenos threat. Rather than facing Greenskins like inSpace Marine, it seems theantagonists ofSpace Marine 2will be Tyranids, as shown both in the initial trailer and in a new behind-the-scenes video posted on Focus Entertainment’s YouTube channel. The video begins by showing off some tabletop Space Marine models. Strangely, these Space Marines are not fighting Tyranids in the footage shown, but instead are battling against daemons of Khorne, perhaps indicating that Chaos could once again prove to be the main antagonist of aSpace Marinetitle.

Moving on from the tabletop shots, Tim Willits of Saber Interactive speaks shortly about the challenges of producing aWarhammerproduct, stating that it is both scary and exciting to make an adaptation for a franchise that already has millions of fans. Then, Creative Director Oliver Hollis-Leick talks aboutSpace Marine 2, saying that the team didn’t just want to “make any third-person shooter” and wanted to “embody the galactic warfare” heavily associated with aWarhammer 40Kproduct.
There are some shots of the improved graphics ofSpace Marine 2compared to its predecessor, showing off some new levels and concepts that manyWarhammerfans will likely see as impressive. Then, Clive Standen, the new actor for Titus, revealed some of the challenges on playing a Space Marine. Fans may already be familiar with Standen for hiswork on theVikingsTV show, and now he is replacing Mark Strong to suit up as an Ultramarine. “I’m playing… what amounts to a super galactic space warrior,” Standen said. “They’re about two-and-a-half meters tall; they’re probably about 500 pounds before you even put the armor on top of them.”
He then goes on to say that he wondered how the team would recreate those elements before simply stating that “suddenly I am two-and-a-half meters tall, and it’s pretty amazing.” Unfortunately, there weren’t too many new features to look at in theSpace Marine 2footage, but there is still time for fans to see more of the upcoming game while theWarhammerSkulls eventcontinues.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
