Vinland Sagahas finally begun its second cour, and there are many things to look forward to. In the last episode ofthe first cour, Olmar tried to go through the passage of becoming a man. He was engaged in a duel against Brodd, one of Canute’s soldiers, and was easily beaten, as expected. However, Thorgil spurred on Olmar, and the latter tried his luck again. As Olmar charged toward his opponent, a man in a hooded cape threw a coin at the soldier’s eye, causing Brodd to lose focus and giving Olmar an open run at him.
With Brodd defeated, the soldiers began to surround Olmar. This forced Thorgil to step in and defend his brother.Thorgil killed all of Brodd’s men, and when Ketil saw what had transpired, he was shocked. The remaining soldiers tried to tie them up, but Thorgil fought back and killed every soldier except for one. Thorgil then began to interrogate the lonesome soldier, who revealed that it was all part of Canute’s plan to take over Ketil’s farm. He had instructed his men to lose the fight against Olmar so that he could arrest Ketil and make him give up his farm. Thorgil, Olmar, and Ketil then travel with Leif Erikson to their farm. Leif only agreed to travel with them on the condition that Thorfinn be freed from slavery.

How This Affects The Story
Normally, Thorgil’s decision to slaughter Canute’s soldiers entails dire consequences; however, in this particular case, it was his decision to force his brother to fight that will cause problems for everyone. While Canute was already planning to arrest Ketil, the plan would have only worked if Olmar killed Brodd. Considering Olmar is completely spineless, he would have never managed to kill his opponent. He was even willing to run away from the confrontation, but Thorgil forced him to fight. Olmar was extremely scared, but he could not dare stand against his brother, so he did as he was told.
Thorgil’s decision to force Olmar to fight played right into Canute’s hands. The actions of the two brothers put them in a bad spot, and they will be branded traitors for their transgressions.Canute has no reason to hold back anymore, and he can charge with his army to Ketil’s farm and take everything by force. Of course, the possible war doesn’t affect Thorgil at all because he loves to fight. It has already been established that Thorgil will go out of his way to fight people, so he will be licking his lips at the prospect of war.
What Will Happen To The Farm?
OnceCanute brings his armyto Ketil’s farm, it will be an extremely one-sided fight. On paper, Canute should have no problem taking over the farm. Currently, Ketil’s farm is protected by Snake and the guests, but they do not have nearly enough men to repel the attack of Canute’s army. They will have to lay traps and gather all available manpower to defend the farm. Things definitely don’t look good for Ketil and everyone else at the farm.
The upcoming episodes of the anime will be interesting, as Canute is going to accompany his soldiers to Ketil’s farm. Canute’s arrival on Ketil’s farm boosts the chances of him coming face-to-face with Thorfinn. The last time the two saw each other was when Askeladd killed King Sweyn. To stop Askeladd’s rampage, Canute had to kill him, which prompted Thorfinn to attack the prince.
Thanks to Askeladd’s sacrifice, Canute’s biggest impediment was removed. There is no denying that a lot has changed since the two last saw each other. Back then, Canute was a prince, and now he is the King of Denmark. Meanwhile,Thorfinn used to be a ruthless killer, but he has drastically changed. The memories of the people that he killed haunt Thorfinn in his dreams. Thorfinn lost his will to live and believed that death would free him. Due to the substantial change in his personality, Thorfinn has become more patient, so he will definitely not attack Canute again if they do meet.
