CDPR launched the action RPGThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntin 2015 to an overwhelmingly positive reception. The game follows the series protagonist Geralt of Rivia on his quest to find his long-lost lover Yennefer and save his adopted daughter Ciri from the titular Wild Hunt. Along the way, he battles monsters inspired by Slavic mythology as players explore theWitcher 3’s highly detailed dark-fantasy world. Developers hope to address some of theissues withThe Witcher3’s 4.01 Patch. Unfortunately, while the patch did address many problems with the next-gen ports of theWitcher 3, it also introduced a new set of performance issues on PC. Fortunately, developers seem to have identified the problem, with the studio announcing over Twitter that it has rolled out an appropriate hotfix. Unfortunately, CD Projekt has not revealed any detailed patch notes, but the hotfix is relatively minor, and developers say that the game’s version number will not change. Either way, this is good news forThe Witcher 3players on PC.
4.01 update went live on February 2 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The patch contained a variety of fixes coveringproblems withThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update. The patch mostly targeted issues with stability and performance but also resolved a handful of localization issues. The update affected PC players and next-generation console users, with players encountering problems on all platforms. However, today’s hotfix only addresses PC-specific issues with theWitcher 3’s performance. CDPR did not explain what was causing these performance problems on PC but says that they should be resolved now.
Even putting aside the performance issues on PC, theWitcher 3’s 4.01 Update did not escape criticism. Players voiced some of these criticisms in their replies to the tweet from the game’spublisher and developer CD Projekt Red. These include the developer’s failure to address a severe memory leak issue that causes gradual but extremely significant performance degradation. Others criticized the hotfixes' slow rollout and the fact it did nothing for the graphics and performance issues that Patch 4.01 caused on consoles.
The Witcher 3: Wild Huntis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
