It’s hard to overstate how big the online response has been to the announcement thatBerserkmanga creator Kentaro Miura died earlier this month. The series has been in development for over 30 years, andBerserkhad a lot of influence on video gamesand other dark fantasy media, leading to many tributes cropping up all across the Internet. One recent tribute seesBerserk’s protagonist Guts added into CD Projekt Red’s popular open-world fantasy titleThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Miura’s death was officially reported by theBerserkTwitter account on May 19 at 8:00 p.m. PT, andvigils began in games likeFinal Fantasy 14almost immediately. The manga has received multiple anime adaptations over the years, though its story was not completed prior to the loss of its creator. Even so, its long-running narrative had a big impact on many fans.

As publicized by Dark Side of Gaming (DSO Gaming), a Polish Nexus Mods user named hub997 uploaded aBerserkGuts Skin mod on May 26, dedicating it “in memory of Kentaro Miura.“Guts has been modded intoThe Witcher 3before, but this new version is specifically an aesthetic change with no additional benefits. It replaces the Level 1 Gryphon Armor, letting Geralt of Rivia become Guts if he wears only the Gryphon Pants and equips a specific sword.

The Witcher 3has long been a hub for modders with any and all goals. Somemods have improved graphics inThe Witcher 3, building upon the 2015 title, while others have added new mechanics like extra weapon types or even full campaigns and characters. One notable mod released last year replaced all of Geralt’s romance options with fan-favorite character Yennefer; hot off the heels of a Netflix adaptation starring Henry Cavill.

This acclaimed CD Projekt Red game is not the only placeBerserkhas appeared. Its fandom has also kicked up projects in real life, with acustom Game Boy featuringBerserkartworkbeing commissioned this March. However, there’s no doubt that tributes such as this mod uploaded by hub997 will continue to crop up following the death of Miura.

Mods forThe Witcher 3should also continue rolling out despite the ongoing negative reception to CD Projekt Red’s follow-up titleCyberpunk 2077.
