Fall is known for many things: harvest times, turning leaves, cooler temperatures, football games, sweaters, bonfires, pumpkins, and of course, Halloween. In one way or another, the recently revealedPS Plusfree games for October 2023 all embrace the season, which isn’t typically common with things like this.
ThePS Plus free games for October 2023includeThe Callisto Protocol, Farming Simulator 22, andWeird West. The first is a horror game and spiritual successor toDead Space, where players must investigate an outbreak in an abandoned moon prison.Farming Simulatorsays it all in the title, andWeird Westembraces the many oddities said to exist in the Wild West in an isometric action adventure RPG.

PS Plus Free Games for October 2023: All About the Season
The connections to the Fall are mostly obvious: ForCallisto Protocol, it’s the fact that it’s a horror game. While Halloween doesn’t necessarily mean something horrific, it’s a common time for fans to celebrate their favorite films, games, and anything else associated with the genre. The idea of playing a marathon of horror games isn’t so out there either, and thanks toPS Plus, there’s one more for fans to check out if they so wish.
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum isFarming Simulator 22. The simulator series has been around for several years, so fans know what to expect (plus, it’s pretty self-explanatory). Players use a variety of equipment and machinery to harvest and sell crops, raise livestock, and expand their farms. With the fall harvest,Farming Simulator 22’s release in October may bode better than othersimulation games on PS Plus, as they tend to be too niche.
Whereas the other two are incredibly obvious in their connections with the fall, Weird West is a bit different. However, it embraces the same sort of oddities fans can expect from a non-horror-focused Halloween. There are cowboys, werewolves, and more, all of which have a loose connection with Halloween. Among the threePS Plus games, it is easily the least connected, but they are there.
What’s great about this is that many subscription services, including PS Plus and Game Pass historically, are typically agnostic to things such as seasons and holidays. This doesn’t mean fans should expect an influx ofChristmas games (likeSkyrim)on subscription services this year, but it’s still nice to see the nod.
