Created by an eighth-grade history teacher back in 1971,The Oregon Trailbecame one of the most well-known classic games ever. Developed by Don Rawitsch as a text-based educational game about one of the most famous roads in American history,The Oregon Trailsaw many releases over the years. It was available for several brands of computers during the 70s through the 2000s and also saw releases for mobile, Wii, and 3DS, generally with improved graphics and small bits of new content. However, it never received a full-fledged DLC.

The newCowboys and CrittersDLC forThe Oregon Trailis out right now on Steam and Switch, and it adds some unique content to the title, including a new journey and two complete quests. According to the official announcement, 10 locations will be added to the game in the new Chisholm Trail, and players will get new quests to explore more of California and Horse Creek as they travel around and try to stay alive in the harsh environments of the Wild West.

The DLC also adds a new cooking system to the game, allowing the player to prepare food that will keep the characters in peak condition. To do it, players may be able to hunt and gather ingredients to prepare different dishes with unique effects, which cangive them an edge inThe Oregon Trail. Additional content includes more critters, legends, stories, and new pieces of artwork, making this a substantial addition to the base game.

For a short while, the DLC will be completely free. Players can grab it up to May 8 if they ownThe Oregon Trail. After that, they will need to pay for the extra content.
