The Last of Usfans, such as bucks800, agree that they wish Bill received a post-launch story expansion that could depict more about his life before or after the events of the original game. Bill is unsociable, irritable, and does not stick around inThe Last of Usfor long, but he is a welcome addition, as players traverse trapped areas and navigate around extensive sequences featuring infected enemies. As for what fans wish they were able to learn about Bill, the events that preceded the tragic and conflictedrelationship he had with his partner Frankare at the top of the list.

Bill is then referenced in a single conversation betweenEllie and Dina inThe Last of Us 2, though the dialogue that ensues is interruptible if players progress too quickly through that particular area. Other fans believe that Bill may have ultimately died between the events ofThe Last of UsandThe Last of Us 2, citing how dangerous the environment is that he chose to reside in. Even so, a prequel narrative showing what his life was like earlier in the apocalypse and how he survived before he was on his own would excite fans.
