Summary
The Last of Us 2 Remastered, though a bit controversial, seems to be bringing a fair bit of content to the table. While some have criticized the idea of a remaster happening so soon, as well as the lack of a significant visual overhaul, there is a lot of content coming with the remaster in addition to a consumer-friendly $10 upgrade plan. Not only will the remaster provide a nice jumping on point for newer HBO series fans looking to playThe Last of Us 2before it is tackled in the show, but it will offer Lost Levels that flesh out Ellie’s story, alternate outfits, and a deep Roguelike mode called No Return.
While fans are understandably excited to see some of the content Naughty Dog cut from the game’s critically acclaimed story, or push themselves to their limits as they try to conquer the 12 levels offered within No Return, this remaster is exciting for another portion of theLast of Uscommunity: digital photographers. Like with many other gorgeousPlayStation exclusives, ranging fromHorizontoMarvel’s Spider-Man, players have snapped countless photos withinThe Last of Us 2over the last three years. Come July 18, 2025, some new opportunities for images will present themselves.

How The Last of Us 2 Remastered Makes Digital Photography Better
The Last of Us 2 Remastered Provides New Photo Opportunities For Ellie and Abby
While No Return andThe Last of Us 2’s Lost Levelsmay be what has drawn the most attention thus far, fans can also look forward to a handful of skins for both of the game’s protagonists. Some of these alternate looks may be a bit out there, and should not be used on sa first playthrough because they could ruin the impact of certain story moments, but they will surely provide some memorable image opportunities. Thus far, a gritty survivor version of Abby complete with her short hair from the game’s final fight has been shown, as has a spacesuit costume for Ellie. The second outfit in particular could lead to some stellar pictures, as fans can find ways to make it look like Ellie has finally gotten her wish of exploring space.
While many have been quick to point out how little someThe Last of Us 2scenesare changing in the remaster, the addition of 4K output in fidelity mode will likely help with snapping pretty photos in-game. While faster load times and an unlocked framerate for TVs with VRR are certainly nice, it’s the native 4K output that is a game changer for photographers.

The Last of Us 2 Remastered’s No Return Mode Can Take Player Photos To New Heights
However, as fun as it will be to take photos that lean into the themes of the extra outfits for Abby and Ellie, No Return is where photo mode could really have a chance to shine. Assuming that the feature is still accessible withinThe Last of Us 2’s upcoming roguelike experience, then players will be able to take new kinds of pictures focused on other characters from the series - something many digital photographers will undoubtedly take advantage of.
Thus far, players know that they will be able to useJoel’s brother Tommy, Lev, Jesse, and Dina in No Return, four characters that they did not have a chance to play as in the main game. Whether Joel will also be featured remains to be seen, though given his popularity, it would certainly make sense if he was. Regardless, all four of the confirmed characters have their fans, but with them not being playable in the main game, photographers were limited when it came to capturing images of them. InThe Last of Us 2 Remastered, placing these characters in new poses, taking them to fresh settings, and altering their facial expressions can finally be possible thanks to No Return.
