Summary
TheStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remakehas been one of the franchise’s most anticipated projects since it was announced in 2021. The original game is ripe with compelling storytelling and rich lore, all of which helped it become one of the most beloved RPGs of all time. To this day,KOTORsits at the top of the mountain in terms ofStar Warsgaming experiences, and a remake could modernize that experience in captivating ways.
Though recent news suggeststheKOTOR Remakeisn’t being worked on right now, there is a possibility—if a slim one—that it could be revived somewhere down the line or handed off to another developer.

One modernStar Warsgame provides an exciting opportunity for theKOTOR Remake, and that isStar Wars Jedi: Survivor. That opportunity isn’t based on gameplay, however, it’s an opportunity to integrate a relatively new feature ofStar Warslore.Jedi: Survivorbrought the concept of bleeding a kyber crystal into the world ofStar Warsgaming, establishing the threat of antagonist Dagan Gera and making a concept previously restricted toStar Warsliterature more prominent. TheKOTOR Remakecould lean even further into this new tidbit of lore and provide players with a striking display of the dark side.

Kyber Crystal Bleeding Explained
The concept of kyber crystal bleeding was first introduced early on in Disney’s newStar Warscanon. TheAhsokanovel and a series of Darth Vader comics explainedhow a lightsaber blade is turned redwhen a dark side user pours all of their hate, fear, and pain into a kyber crystal. This causes the crystal to become corrupted, resulting in the signature red color that makes the Sith and other dark-siders so intimidating. A corrupted crystal can become purified by pouring love and compassion into it, typically resulting in a white lightsaber blade such as that Ahsoka Tano wields inRebelsand theAhsokaseries.
Jedi: Survivor’s Expedited Kyber Crystal Bleeding
The kyber crystal bleeding process can vary for each dark-sider, depending on how deep their rage is and how resistant the kyber crystal is to the bleeding.Jedi: Survivor’s example of kyber crystal bleedingwas perhaps one of the fastest in the currentStar Warscanon, with Dagan Gera taking mere seconds to turn his crystal from yellow to red. While this may seem anticlimactic compared to Darth Vader’s crystal bleeding in the comics, it does provide an immediate sense of how far gone the once High Republic-era Jedi is.
How The KOTOR Remake Can Make Use Of Kyber Crystal Bleeding
Kyber crystal bleeding is an essential part of a Force user’s descent into the dark side. This allows theKOTOR Remaketo add a new element to the classic story by demonstrating how Revan went about bleeding their crystal when they fell, or see it bleed if players decide to turn to the dark side within their playthrough.
Kyber Crystal Bleeding Can Depict Revan’s Turn to the Dark Side
Whether it’s an interactive part of the game or a flashy cinematic, theKOTOR Remakecould make a true spectacle out of the process and demonstrate just how transformative it is.Revan’s journey between the Jedi and the Sithwas one of the most epic inStar Wars' previous canon, and incorporating a full kyber crystal bleeding scene could greatly add to the grandeur.
TheKOTORRemakemay be in a bad place right now, but it’s hard to deny just how much potential it still has.Star Warslore has evolved a lot since the canon was rebooted close to ten years ago, and whileKOTOR’s status as a canon storyis still a point of contention, the remake could still draw inspiration from recent storytelling.Jedi: Survivor’s usage of kyber crystal bleeding made for an exciting display of the dark side, and theKOTOR Remakecould dive in even deeper with one of the franchise’s most renowned Force users.
