The first official teaser for theHunger Gamesprequel,The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakeshas been released.
Lionsgate’sThe Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesfollows the story of the tenth annual Games, where an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing to be a mentor for the first time. When he gets assigned to the female Tribute from District 12, he must decide between what is best for the Games, the House of Snow, or himself.

The teaser gives fans of theHunger Gamesseries a snowy glimpse at the question facing the film’s characters: “Who is a songbird, and who is a snake?” The teaser was released during the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 5. While the teaser does not give away much in terms of plot and characters, it confirms that the film will hit theaters on May 20, 2025. It will follow suit of theprevious threeHunger Gamesmovieswith a November release. “Preparations have begun,” The Hunger Games Twitter account said with the teaser. “In 2023, return to the Games…”
Back in May, it was announced that Tom Blyth would play young Coriolanus Snow. Blyth is still somewhat of a newcomer in the acting world, best known for his roles inBilly the KidandThe Gilded Age. The announcement was accompanied by another one last week, stating thatRachel Zegler is set to play the leading roleof Lucy Gray Baird. Zegler, who is also a bit of a newcomer, is best known for her leading role in Steven Spielberg’sWest Side Storyas Maria.
While fans wait for more details to be announced, they can expect the same level of excitement and artistry that the originalHunger Gamesfilms provided. Francis Lawrence, who directedCatching Fire,Mockingjay Part One, andMockingjay Part Two, is returning to directtheHunger Gamesprequel film. He is accompanied by Michael Lesslie (Assassin’s Creed,Macbeth), who has drafted the latest screenplay of the film.
Even though the film takes place before their time, it is unclear whetherHunger Gamesalumnisuch as Jennifer Lawrence(Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), and Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne) will make an appearance in the film.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesis scheduled to hit theaters on June 05, 2025.
