As fans eagerly await the second installment of Matt Reeves' more grounded iteration of Batman, the rumor mill turns out rumor after rumor. Fans don’t know much aboutThe Batman-Part 2, but as time creeps closer to the film’s expected release in 2025, more info comes to light. Matt Reeves established a darker, grittier, and more grounded world of Gotham City than fans have seen in live-action. Fans greeted Paul Dano’s portrayal of Riddler with overwhelming praise as he showed an iteration of the character never before seen on the big screen. Matt Reeves intends to do something similar in the sequel to Clayface, who has never received a live-action adaptation.
Now there’s a new rumor thatmight put Clayface on the sidelines, paving the way for a lesser-known villain to stand in the spotlight. Comic book fans might have a good idea of who Hush is, but fans of the Bat family on television only have a superficial understanding of him. If this rumor turns out to be true, Matt Reeves might be looking to adapt one of the more nuanced and convoluted stories from theBatmancomics. However, it would also introduce a unique and sinister villain that fits right into the atmosphere ofThe Batman.

The Batman 2 Might Feature Hush
There’s a rumor floating around that Robert Pattinson’s Batman will square off against one of his more formidable rivals from the comics. A reputable scooper by the name of Jeff Sneider recently informed fans that Hush might appear inThe Batman 2, but it’s only a rumor at the moment. He also doesn’t know to what extent the movie would feature the character. It’s possible audiences will only see hints, or maybe they’ll see the character before he became Hush. Most likely, no matter how Hush shows up in the movie, he won’t be the only villain since even the first film featured numerous antagonists. After all, the movie is slated to featureClayface in his first big screen appearance.
The Batmangave a very subtle yet in-your-face hint that Hush exists and is coming. The Riddler reveals in a video that a reporter with the last name Elliot was working on revealing a dark secret the Waynes were keeping until Thomas Wayne went to Carmine Falcone to have the journalist dealt with. This gives Hush the motivation to exact revenge on Bruce Wayne. It’s also fitting that Hushfollow-up Riddler as a villain-if it turns out to be true- because he teamed up with Riddler in the comics to go after Bruce.

Who is Hush in DC Comics?
Hush made his first appearance in 2003 from the masterful mind of prolific comic book writer Jeph Loeb (famous forBatman: The Long Halloween) and trusted pencils of the illustrious Jim Lee, who is now the publisher of DC Comics. The character premiered in his own 12-issue miniseries titledBatman: Hushwhere the character put Batman and Bruce Wayne through the ringer, pitting him against the hero’s allies and rogues gallery alike.
Upon learning that Bruce Wayne is Batman, Bruce’s childhood friend Thomas Elliotallies himself with the Riddler, and the two scheme to destroy Batman. Thomas “Tommy” Elliot came from a wealthy family like Bruce, which is how they knew each other. Tommy’s parents made sure he received the best education, but he was already a natural strategist from very young, teaching Bruce how to think like his opponents in a board game they played together. However, Tommy wasn’t a fan of his abusive father or submissive mother, so he devised a plan to kill them. He severed the brake line of their car, resulting in the death of his dad and the hospitalization of his mom.

Thomas Wayne, being a surgeon, saved Tommy’s mom, which forced him to take care of her and prevented him from receiving an inheritance. His mother denied him any chance at receiving an inheritance when she cut him out of her will, causing more anger and resentment in him, especially toward Bruce. Tommy was jealous thatBruce received everything the Waynesowned after their death. Thus his ever-growing desire to see Bruce destroyed.
Where Else has Hush Appeared?
Hush quickly went from a one-time villain in his own miniseries to a comic book mainstay. Paul Dini eventually wrote his own story that featured Hush as the main villain and tied it into the famousBatman R.I.P.storyline. TheHeart of Hushsaw Tommy Elliot perform plastic surgery on himself to make him look identical to Bruce Wayne to destroy him socially and financially. This aspect of the Hush character eventually carried over to theBatwomanserieson CW where Gabrial Mann played the twisted villain.
The character’s first live-action debut came with theGothamTV series on FOX that followed the early adventures of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). Cole Vallis first played Tommy Elliot in the show’s first season, but Gordon Winarick took over the role in season four. Unlike the comics that saw Tommy and Bruce as friends early on, this version pits them against each other with Tommy bullying Bruce at the Anders Preparatory Academy before burying the hatchet and becoming friends.
Thomas Elliot also appears in the animated version ofBatman: Hush, except he’s not the titular villain. The story for the animated adaptation received a few alterations to make it a more cohesive story, unlike its comic book counterpart. Elliot goes on to appear in bothBatman: Arkham CityandArkham Knightwhere he escaped Arkham City and disguised himself as Bruce Wayne to gain entry toWayne Tower inArkham Knight.
