The shonen genre is a very popular one in theanimeworld and is known to include some ofthe best anime shows of all time. Most of the time, the stories are pretty serious and put the characters through a lot of emotional turmoil, but there have been some times where the comedy shines through. This shows a different and usually a more relaxed side to the characters, letting viewers see a different side to them.

Most of the shonen protagonists have been in some hilarious situations, but these ones are among the funniest inanime. Whether it’s outside of battle or even in it, these characters have become pretty iconic for being some of the funniest characters, if not the funniest, on their respective shows.
10Goku (Dragon Ball)
Outside of battle, Goku is a goofball dad and husband. Most of his scenes are comedic and show him being an overall airhead in most social situations. Having a good laugh is great and all, but Goku having almost constant comedy moments is a little exhausting. It almost shows that he doesn’t have any common sense outside of fighting and is a little dumb.
Thankfully, Chi-Chi did most of the work when it came to raising their sons and they’re a perfect mixture of her and Goku. Though it can come offas annoying at times,Goku is usually in most of the funniest moments inDragon Ball.

9Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho)
Despite being a delinquent, Yusuke is a pretty funny guy when he’s with his friends and on his own. He’s not afraid to be sarcastic to them or his enemies, even insulting some of the enemies to their faces. He and Kuwabara are pretty funny together since it’s usually one as the brains and the other as the brawn, depending on the situation. Even in the most serious situations like when the Special Defense Force tried to kill him, Yusukemade it seem like he was eviljust to mess with them.
Even Yusuke’s relationship with Keiko is hilarious since she doesn’t put up with his nonsense and is not afraid to slap him, even if he’s heavily injured. Yusuke even made his proposal to her a little funny and she kind of blew him off, but didn’t say no either and waited three years for him to come back to the Human World.

8Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Slayer)
The comedy moments inDemon Slayerare few, but not too far between. Usually, Zenitsu and Inosuke are providing some of the funniest moments on the show, butTanjiro is pretty funny too. He’s usually the level-headed one of the trio, but he does show some moments of naivety or hilarious moments with other characters.
Some of Tanjiro’s funniest moments are with Haganezuka, the swordsmith in charge of making his swords, since Tanjiro tends to lose them in some way. He’s also so honest that he can’t even lie with a straight face. Tanjiro may not get many chances to be funny, but they are definitely memorable.

7Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto)
Naruto started off the series as a prankster and troublemaker, and he’s one of the funniest characters on the show. In the first episode, he and Sasuke accidentally kiss each other which lives on in the minds of fans. Viewers also couldn’t help but cringe and laugh as Kakashi used theOne Thousand Years of Death techniqueon him during the first bell test.

Near the end of the series, Naruto did get a little more serious which limited the number of humorous moments quite a bit. However, Naruto had to add a little humor to get an opening in his and Sasuke’s fight against Kaguya Otsutsuki, and used the Reverse Harem Jutsu on her. At first, it seemed like a dumb decision, but it actually worked. Considering everything that happened before the fight, this comedic moment was perfectly timed.
6Meliodas (Seven Deadly Sins)
Seven Deadly Sinshas quite a few humorous moments and Meliodas is usually at the center of them. Most of his comedic moments tend to involve Elizabeth, Ban, and/or Hawk. With Elizabeth, Meliodas is usually a little handsy with her and says things to make her blush, but it’s not with any ill intent. Hawk is usually yelling at Meliodas because of this and isn’t afraid to hit, kick, or tie him up if he’s being too forward. Meliodas will occasionally threaten to make Hawk into a roast pig if Hawk doesn’t listen to him or just to tease him.
With Ban, their relationship isa little twisted, but humorous. The two of them act like little kids after not seeing each other for a while, and this excitement usually means they’ll end up punching each through a wall which often leads to them unwittingly destroying the area around them.

5Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)
Since the beginning ofOne Piece, Luffey has gone through a lot and has had some character growth, but he’s still the lovable goofball that fans know and love. He’s the captain ofthe Straw Hat Pirates, but some might not think this since he’s very laid-back and kind of an airhead. He provides some of the funniest moments in the series even when fighting against some tough opponents.
One running gag in the show is that Luffy can’t see things that are very obvious like when Usopp was disguised as the Sogeking or Foxy’s disguises. Even though his simple-mindedness can get a little annoying, it still provides a good laugh.

4Shoyo Hinata And Tobio Kageyama (Haikyuu!!)
This duo is a two-for-one deal because they’re rarely seen without each other.Hinata and Kageyama are geniuseson the volleyball court, but outside of it is a different story. It’s almost like the two of them share one brain because Hinata is a simple-minded and cheerful boy who’s a little extroverted whereas Kageyama is short-tempered, reserved and a more introverted boy. Despite arguing a good chunk of the time, the two of them don’t do it out of malice and it’s usually to push the other to give it their all.

Their strong passion for volleyball can get them into trouble with Daichi, who usually scolds them when they’re being too childish. Fans ofHaikyuu!!know that when they’re together, it’s usually going to be comedy gold because Kageyama can’t stop getting mad at Hinata and Hinata isn’t afraid to tease him while arguing.
3Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
There is one thing that Edward Elric won’t stand for: anyone talking about his height. He cannot stand when people mention his less-than-average height or poke fun at him for it. Even in the most serious situations and fights, Edward will hilariously lose his temper if the enemy mentions his short stature. It doesn’t even matter if it’s an ally, he’ll turn his attention to them and yell at them for calling him “a tiny, little pipsqueak” even if they technically didn’t call him this.
Even when he’s not losing his temper due to mentions of his height, Edward still provides some of thefunniest moments on the show.Usually, his interactions with Roy Mustang are hilarious since both of them trade snide remarks with each other. Even his interactions with his brother Alphonse are hilarious, since, sometimes, Al comes off as more mature than Ed.

2Saitama (One Punch Man)
Saitama is almost like a walking meme because his expressions, his interactions with other characters, and his personality are just hilarious. Unlike most shonen protagonists who need to get stronger to defeat their enemies,Saitama is too powerfuland is looking for an enemy who won’t die after one punch. Plus, he gets upset at everyday things that are pretty relatable like a fly flying around and being bothersome or missing a sale at the grocery store.
Even just looking at him will make viewers laugh because he’s usually indifferent to everyone he meets and talks to. To see him go from that to having extreme emotions and having exaggerated facial expressions makes it hard to not laugh.

1Gintoki Sakata (Gintama)
Gintoki is a big reason whyGintamais very funny and memorablein the anime world. He sort of takes the typical tropes that come with shonen protagonists and flips them on their heads. The jokes that he makes at times can be a little obscene, but this makes it perfect for an adult audience.
Being quite a bit older than most other shonen protagonists, seeing Gintoki act the way that he does is too funny. One might think that being an adult means maturity, but Gintoki doesn’t follow that and he and his companions can be quite immature at times.
