A modder ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateadds in the fan-favorite member of theCastlevaniagames, Alucard, as a playable character. The roster ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatehas representatives not only from Nintendo’s back catalog of gaming history, but also several third-party representatives from companies like Capcom, Sega, and Konami. One of the earliest reveals that blew many people away during the hype cycle before the game’s launch wasSimon Belmont and otherCastlevaniarepresentatives, which was a franchise many had hoped would be a part of the game for a long time. One of these characters who was in the game but not as a playable character was Alucard.

Alucard made his first appearance inCastlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, where he is the companion of Trevor Belmont and the son of Dracula himself. Many gamers would become more familiar with Alucard’s playable appearance inCastlevania: Symphony of the Night, which solidified his presence as a part of the cast and would influence the Metroidvania/search-action game genre as a whole. In the crossover however, he is one ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate’s assist trophies, which fans believe he would be better as a playable character. Modders believed the same, with one making Alucard into a custom playable fighter.

While there have been efforts to port Alucard over existingcharacters like Marthor Sephiroth, this custom mod for Alucard intends to be based on Richter’s moveset. The mod is still a heavy work in progress, developed by C# or CSharp, where they first posted a rough gameplay trailer on their YouTube channel. It showed off Alucard’s unique moveset, with an extensive video showcase going into depth about how he differs from the Belmonts.

Alucard’s playable appearance in this mod has many references toCastlevania’s history, such as his midair jump turning his cloak into a pair of bat wings, or his backwards dodge being his iconic backdash fromSymphony of the Night. His primary attacks either involve his sword or using his soul attacks, such as his Neutral-Special being Hellfire, which throws three fireballs in a straight direction, or his Up-Special turning Alucard into a Bat.

His Down-Special retains Richter Belmont’s Holy Water, while his Side-Special functions like Ganondorf’s flame choke, though it also functions as a reference toCastlevania: Order of Ecclesia. This Side-Special allows him to enter Dark Metamorphosis, which heals Alucard whenever he lands attacks with his sword. This Dark Metamorphosis gives other buffs to his Special Attacks, such as turning his Hellfire into Dark Inferno. According to CSharp, thisSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatemod will release in early access sometime in February, with a public release later in the year. More details about the mod can be found on the mod’s GitHub page.
