After weeks of rumors and speculation, Nintendo finally announced theSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC 5 character. Despite rumors that Dante fromDevil May Cryor Ryu fromNinja Gaidenwould be DLC 5, it’s been confirmed that the new character is yet another one fromFire Emblem. It’s been announced by game director Masahiro Sakurai thatSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC 5is none other than Byleth fromFire Emblem: Three Houses.

TheSuper Smash Bros. UltimateByleth DLC will be available beginning January 28 as part of the Fighters Pass or for individual purchase at $5.99. Byleth will have a special counter-move, male and female variants, and access to the Heroes Relics so that he’s not just anotherFire Emblemswordfighter. This should help Byleth stand out from most of the otherFire Emblemcharacters that are already in the game.

Even though Byleth will be quite a bit different than otherFire Emblemcharacters, there will no doubt be some fans who are disappointed by this reveal. After all,Super Smash Bros. Ultimatealready has sevenFire Emblemcharacters on the roster, so it seems like the spot would have been better served going to a character from a different franchise.

For those who may be disappointed by the reveal of Byleth as the nextSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC character, the bright side is that he is not the last DLC character coming to the game. It was announced some time ago that Nintendo was going toextend beyond theSuper Smash Bros. UltimateFighters Passto release even more DLC characters for the game, though details on them remain scarce at the time of this writing.

It’s possible some of the rumoredSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC characters will be coming to the game next. In the past,Crash Bandicoothas been rumored, along with Waluigi, Geno fromSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Doomguy, and more. Based on who has been added to theSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC roster so far, the next character could really be just about anyone, even characters from rival companies.

It took Nintendo quite a long time to reveal theSuper Smash Bros. UltimateByleth DLC, though, so fans shouldn’t expect to see the next character for quite some time.
