ThePokemonfranchise alone has over 1000 characters as of writing and boasts one of the biggest and most active fan bases in the world, so it shouldn’t be surprising that at least one of them ranks among the top ten video game character tattoos. Just recently atattoo artist set out to ink all 151 Gen 1 Pokemonto raise funds for charity.

Surprisingly enough, only one character from thePokemonfranchise made the list of most popular video game character tattoos; it should be unsurprising that the Pokemon in question is none other than Pikachu who ranks at number one. TheSuper Mariofranchise has the most characters in the rankings with Mario himself securing the number two spot followed by Bowser and Yoshi further down the list. The number three spot goes to Kratos from the award-winningGod of Warfranchise.

The study that produced these results was carried out by Online Casino by analyzing TikTok, Google, and Instagram data to index how much search volume each character generated when suffixed with the word “tattoo” and “tattoos.” Pikachu earned the title for character most likely to be tattooed on the bodies of gaming fans by a wide margin with the hashtag “pikachutattoo” garnering almost 11 million views across Instagram and TikTok. Everyone’s favorite plumber Mario bestedGod of Warprotagonist Kratos by just over 1 million TikTok views, which the study in part attributed tothe upcomingSuper Mario Bros.movie. Kratos, in turn, beat out Kirby for the number three spot by having more than double the amount of Google searches with nearly the same amount of Instagram and TikTok searches.
While it is difficult to say how well the results of this study reflect the amount of times these characters have actually been tattooed, it is a fun and interesting comparison with some surprising results.God of Warprotagonist Kratos has iconic tattoosof his own, making him unique among the other characters who rank as the top video game characters when it comes to tattoos.
