Strange Worldis like a modern take on the old serial adventure novels of the early 1900s. The genre has been coming back in films with recent examples such asUnchartedandThe Lost Cityfrom earlier in 2022. The best example will always be the Indiana Jones series though.

Strange Worldis about Searcher, a farmer who lost his father 25 years ago on an expedition. When the leader of his country, Callisto, asks Searcher for help with a crisis, he mobilizes and decides to adventure once again. This leads to him reuniting with his father underground and the plot continues from there. Here are some of the funniest and most thoughtful quotes from this relatively simple plot.

8“Exploration Is Snow Joke.”
This is an early joke made by Jaeger in the initial scene of this movie, showcasinghis dad essence. It’s a dad joke to end all dad jokes. It’s funny, seemingly setting him up to make more corny remarks but this is the only one.
Presumably, Jaeger could have lost his sense of humor after he got stuck underground for 25 years. Solitude will do that to a person no matter how brave of an explorer they are. That’s not the case though as Jaeger is still plenty jolly even without the dad jokes.
7“Ahh, They’re Not Really Talking About The Crew Are They?”
It’s clear from the start that Jaeger and Searcher have bad blood between them. Jaeger is obsessed with exploring the unknown like great heroes in other adventure movies,or adventure games. Searcher, on the other hand, realized that he is clumsy and is not cut out to explore.
He’s seemingly fine with that as he has other passions such as discovering new plants. That’s when the two get into an argument about what the crew wants. It’s clearly about them, which makes a random crew member pipe up with this line awkwardly.
6“He Didn’t Care About Me, He Only Cared About Climbing Those Mountains.”
Searcher says this to his son, Ethan, after he asks about his grandpa. Searcher is tortured by this since Jaeger left when he was a kid. He stillloves his dad, but he is upset that Jaeger chose the world over family.

That’s what Searcher thinks anyway which is a theme throughoutStrange World. This film is about family as much as it is about adventuring like the classic movies. Specifically, the theme of this movie revolves around fathers and the expectations they put on their children.
5“That’s Exactly What An Oddly Shaped Rock Would Say.”
It doesn’t take long for the film to reunite Searcher with his father Jaeger. At this point Jaeger is suspicious of Searcher though, thinking he may be an illusion. The joke gets funnier when an actual rock appears that looks like Searcher as Jaeger says this line.
The physical humor is one of the best reoccurring comedic themes inStrange Worldfrom human-shaped rocks to face slaps. It’s the kind of humor that all ages can enjoy, which is something Disney excels at inits animated features.
4“It’s So Cute, I Wanna Merchandise It.”
Caspian, the nervous crew member from Callisto’s team, says this line after meeting Splat. Sure enough, Disney has merchandised the heck out of Strange World which is not surprising. The company was built on merchandising thanks to Mickey and they have expanded their scope since adding Marvel andStar Warsstuff to the mix. What would an animated movie from Disneybe without toys, shirts, games, and so on? This line then is the writers perhaps poking fun at their overlords.
3“Who Taught You How To Throw?”
It’s clear that Searcher’s body is not built for exploring. The intro comic with its accompanying song points this out with all of his failures. It’s no wonder then that he can’t even throw a small ball via the Pando.

As he tries to toss a Pando ball at an enemy and fails, Jaeger asks this question. Searcher replied with Sheldon making viewers think this guy must be scrawny. The joke is funnier after Sheldon is revealed to be a brute of a man, almost on thescale of The Rock. Can Sheldon really not throw a ball?
2“I’d Like To Exercise My Right To Look At You Uncomfortably.”
Meridian says this line to Ethan who is already complaining about his mom showing affection. She also says a line about how Ethan came out of her, giving her full access to torturing her son in any way she pleases. She means it in good fun but that is true as childbirth is a wild concept.
WhileStrange Worldomits Searcher’s mom from the picture, as Disney films like to do, at least Meridian gets to be highlighted. She’s a kind mom and an ace pilot who is unafraid to question anyone standing in her way.
1“It’s Judging Me?”
One of the biggest surprises of the movie is that the society of Avalonia is on the back of a large turtle-like titan. This idea may have come from various mythologies around the world or maybe eventhe RPG seriesXenoblade Chroniclesinspired the creators.
This line about the giant judging the heroes is funny considering this beast probably thinks nothing of them. They are mere ants to a titan like this. Does something of this size even have time to judge Jaeger or Searcher, or is it content with just being alive?
