During its Gamescom 2021 livestream, Microsoft announced an exciting new update for Undead Labs’ open-world zombie survival gameState of Decay 2. It wasre-released asState of Decay 2: Juggernaut Editionin March 2020 as a free upgrade to existing owners, and will now be getting a remastered map as a part of theHomecomingupdate.

State of Decay 2launched in 2018 to mixed reviews, but has seen a steady release of new content since then. TheHeartlandDLC added new story missions and characters, while theJuggernaut Editionoverhauled several graphical features, including the lighting. Undead Labs has promised thatState of Decay 2will get continued supportdespite the announcement of its sequelState of Decay 3, and that has proven to be correct yet again.

Microsoft has confirmed that Trumbull Valley, the original map from the firstState of Decay, will now be fully playable as an open-world map inState of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition. While Trumbull Valley was playable in the above-mentionedHeartlandDLC, players were extremely limited by the restrictions imposed by story missions. After this new update, players will be able to explore areas that weren’t previously accessible. The following action-packed trailer mainly consists of zombies being slaughtered in various fashions, before highlighting some of the features that will be a part of the update.

Homecomingadds six new bases, as well as unique weapons and outfits that can only be found in Trumbull Valley. New missions and achievements will also be added toState of Decay 2as a part of this update.State of Decay 2optimized for Xbox Series Xlast year, and fans can now experience 4K/60fps performance, faster load times, and the improved world and shadow detail in the game.

Undead Labs had confirmed thatState of Decay 3was in early pre-productionas of last year, so it’s easy to assume that a part of the production team has continued to work on new content forState of Decay 2. Regardless, opening up the original Trumbull Valley and letting fans turn it into their new playground should help pass the time before the release of the next game in the series.

TheHomecomingupdate will launch on September 1, and will be included as a part ofXbox Game Pass. Undead Labs also announced thatState of Decay 2: Juggernaut Editionhas surpassed a massive milestone of 10 million players.

State of Decay 2is now available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
