Bethesda’sStarfieldis shaping up to be one of the most hotly-anticipated games in recent history, and some fans have already noticed a minor detail about Mars that has them excited to explore the surface of the red planet in the game once it releases later this year. Although it has been confirmed thatStarfieldwill include more than 1,000 unique planets for players to explore beyond Earth’s own star system, it seems as though fans will just as easily be able to visit the planets a little closer to home.
Starfieldhas stirred up an unbelievable amount of hypeamong gamers since the space-based action role-playing game was first officially announced back in 2018. The open-world sci-fi game promises an abundance of features, with many of its core gameplay elements resembling those found in Bethesda’s other genre-defining titles, such asTheElder ScrollsandFalloutgames.Starfieldseeks to put a unique spin on the decision-based, story-driven experiences that fans are familiar with, dropping players into the distant future where humanity has taken to the stars in order to conquer new frontiers.

While the Milky Way galaxy is rich in new worlds that will be available for players to explore, fans have also found reason to be excited about exploring some of the planets local to the more familiar solar system. One fan known as ShriyanshPandey on Reddit made a post on the site that points out a small detail they noticed about the planet Mars, which isshown to exist similarly inStarfieldas it does in the real world. While the surface of Mars is a cold, harsh environment that presumably doesn’t harbor any life at this point in the real world, the planet’s profile inStarfieldclaims floral life on the planet is primordial - suggesting that extremely basic forms of life may be discoverable on the red planet in-game, perhaps in the form of fossils.
This shows thatStarfieldisn’t afraid to explore certain avenues of scientific theorythat are popular in the present day, as real-world life on Mars has been a hotly-discussed topic over the past several decades. Many scientists believe that the planet once bore semblance to Earth, as evidence of water on Mars paired with the much stronger magnetosphere that it used to have has led many to believe that the red planet was once home to life, however simple.
What’s more, this detail suggests that life may be discoverable in a broad range of forms within the galaxy ofStarfield, and xenoarcheology might well be a whole feature in itself. Regardless of whether it’s alive or dead, though,Starfieldhas already boasted some of the crazy forms of alien lifethat players will be able to meet once the game comes out in a couple of months' time.
