Major Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Story Spoilers AheadStar Wars Jedi: Survivoris an exemplary sequel in that it gives lots of closure to characters that need it, even if it does leave a considerable gap in-between installments. Much context is lost if fans have not also readStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s prequel novel,Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, but it is made clear in-game that this lapse of time is not crucial to understanding why the Stinger Mantis crew has split up since. One of these crew members has had the most interesting development, though, and they are given a great amount of closure.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Stinger Mantis crewis less involved than they were inStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but that is only due to Koboh and Jedha introducing so many new NPCs. Cal even had a new crew he was running with, but that is not experienced for long inStar Wars Jedi: Survivorbefore all of but Bode Akuna die. It is exciting to catch up with Cal’s old crew and see how they have changed sinceStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but the most narrative attention easily goes to Cere Junda, who gets a legitimate rematch against the most formidable adversary imaginable: Darth Vader.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Darth Vader Made for a Great Escape Sequence
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Darth Vaderappears at the end of the Second Sister’s boss fight, cutting Trilla Suduri down before using the Force to fling Cere away. Cal is left alone with Vader and the game lets the player think that they are about to follow one boss fight with another before an escape sequence begins.
This demonstrates the remarkable difference in power that Cal and Vader have at this point, with Vader slowly stalking Cal and intimidatingly tearing the underwater Inquisitorius base apart. Cal and BD-1 defend themselves from Vader’s attacks before Cere returns and confronts him herself, but she decides to flood the base and escape rather than attempt to take him on fully.

Cere not even being fully connected to the Force at this point is a fair demonstration of what her abilities are like, but it was always obvious that Vader could never be authentically beaten by Cal or Cere because that would create obvious continuity discrepancies. That is why when Cere suddenly becomes a playable protagonist andDarth Vader appears inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, it is surprising yet exhilarating that fans are finally given a true boss fight against him.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Gives Players a Genuine Darth Vader Boss Fight
Star Wars Jedi: Survivorleaves Cere and Vader in Jedha’s Archive room together as the place is up in flames, and when players’ lightsaber strikes actually connect with Vader’s for more than a few seconds it is a unique revelation to learn they will be fighting him this time. Cere has a lot of reasons to despise Vader, including the fact that it is because of him that Trilla was turned into an Inquisitor at the hands of the Empire. This fight is even more surprising because fans might have believed the gamewas ending soon afterStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s third Dagan Gera boss fight.
Still, Cere gains a lot of closure through this multiphase boss fight because it ends with critical impalement blows landed on both herself and Vader. Vader limps away with injuries sustained, however, while Cere collapses into Cal’s arms. Cere’s final words are “Cal” and “Trilla,” which neatly envelops her character development. That said, this is not the last time players see Cere, which might mean that she will have a spectral presence in the franchise’s future, too.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivoris available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
