Toys for Bob has seemingly teased some kind ofSpyro the Dragon-related announcement for 2023 as the popular purple platforming mascot celebrates his 25th birthday this year.Spyro the Dragonand its sequels were some of the premiere exclusives for the PlayStation 1 console, though the franchise lost a lot of its quality when the IP left Insomniac Games. Despite this, sales remained high enough to justify new main seriesSpyro the Dragongames coming out on an annual basis until 2008.Spyrowent on hiatus afterThe Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, only to be used to push Activision’s newSkylandersfranchise a few years later. While Spyro continued to be featured in theSkylandersvideo games, the main platforming game franchise remained dormant until 2018 whenToys for Bob producedSpyro Reignited Trilogy.Spyro Reignited Trilogycollected the original PS1 games together in a remastered collection with vastly improved graphics and gameplay improvements, with many fans holding out hope that it would lead to a proper revival of the franchise.RELATED:Stray Mod Adds Spyro the Dragon to the GameNoSpyro 4video game or any new project sinceSpyro Reignited Trilogyhas been announced, but Toys for Bob’s latest tweet does have some fans cautiously optimistic about the franchise’s future. Toys for Bob recently released an image hinting at what the studio has in store for the new year. The image references theCrash Team Rumblemultiplayer gamethat’s set to launch later in 2023, but it also included Spyro the Dragon with “25th” floating above his head, hinting that some kind of announcement related to the franchise’s anniversary could be on the way.

Insiders havedenied that brand-newSpyro the Dragongamesare in development, so fans may not want to get too excited that this is leading up to aSpyro 4reveal. It’s possible that Toys for Bob isn’t hinting at a new game announcement at all. If anything, this could simply be a port ofSpyro Reignited Trilogyto PS5 and Xbox Series X platforms, but even that might not come to pass.

2023 may or may not see the reveal of an official newSpyro the Dragongame or port of one of the franchise’s older titles, but there is some evidence to suggest thatSkylanders: Spyro’s Adventurecould be making a comeback. Leaked surveys from Activision suggest that the company is looking to release aSkylanderscollectionthat would collect the first three games in the series in a single package and no longer require users to collect real-life toys for use in-game. While it may not be the bigSpyrocomeback fans are hoping for, there is at least more proof that project exists versus any other kind ofSpyro the Dragongame.
