Geoff Keighley announced earlier today that news regardingSonic Frontiers, the upcoming open-worldSonic the Hedgehoggame, will be revealed at Gamescom, one of the biggest gaming events in the world. As manySonic the Hedgehogfans have been wanting to know more about this title, this announcement has made many of them a lot more excited forGamescom 2022.
Gamescom is a huge gaming trade fairheld in the Koelnmesse in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany every year. During the event, new games are revealed and gamers can play them before they are released. This year’s Gamescom will take place from August 23 to August 28.

Geoff Keighleyannounced through a Twitter post thatSonic Frontierswould be one of the games shown at this year’s Gamescom. He let his followers know that a world premier new look and news about the upcoming, first open-world installment of theSonic the Hedgehogfranchise will be shared on August 23, the opening night of Gamescom.
A lot ofSonic the Hedgehogfans were thrilled by this announcement, letting others know how excited they are for Gamescom now. Some fans even brought up what they would like to know about the upcoming title, such asthe date thatSonic Frontierswill be releasedand more gameplay mechanics that have not been shown through trailers or gameplay clips.
Developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega,Sonic Frontierswas first shown during a Sonic Central presentation in May 2021, wherethe developers' plans to celebrateSonic the Hedgehog’s 30th anniversary were revealed. While it was originally scheduled to release last year, it was delayed until the end of 2022. Ever since then, fans have been excited to learn more about the game, hoping that it will revolutionize the series as similar open-world games have.
There has been a lot ofSonic the Hedgehognews over the past couple of days, including a collaboration withFall Guysin which players of the party battle royale game will be able to earnSonic the Hedgehog-themed skins in an event called Sonic’s Adventure, which will take place from August 11 to the 15. The third movie in the film series,Sonic the Hedgehog 3, has also been announced to release on July 22, 2025. With so much news centering aroundSonic the Hedgehog, the fact that fans know that they will learn Frontiersat the end of the month only makes things even better.
