AsDestiny 2prepares for the upcomingBeyond Lightexpansion, players have quickly flocked to any news about what might be coming, or returning, to the game in upcoming seasons. One incredibly high profile weapon has immediately grabbed the attention of fans who hope that one of the originalDestiny’s most powerful guns might be coming back soon, but it seems highly unlikely.
The leak comes from Twitter user @blucorsa, a retiredDestinyspeedrunner who often finds and posts leaks and rumors aboutDestiny 2and what fans are hoping might be coming in future updates. However, the likelihood of the latest rumor coming true is extremely questionable, especially considering the classic weapon’s ability to make someDestinyplayers incredibly overpowered.

The weapon in question isDestiny’s exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn, well known for being the strongest weapon in the first year of the game’s initial release. In an image being shared on Twitter, players can see what seems to be a screenshot of someone having the infamous weapon in their collections page with the ability to reacquire it. However, there are a number of inconsistencies that viewers have pointed out, including the lack of texture in the icon image, and a lack of season overlay in the top right of the tooltip.
Fans are having a mixed response for whether the return of this weapon inDestiny 2will be for the better, considering that it’s power became almost necessary for some encounters, completely disrupting the balance of heavy weapons and exotics. Additionally, fans that still remember a time when the Gjallarhorn drop rate was incredibly low and barred players from finding groups to join for Raids and other high difficulty encounters.
If this is a legitimate addition toDestiny 2’s exotic gear, it may have to be carefully balanced in order to make sure that all players have access to the weapon and its power is in line with the rest of the game, though it still doesn’t seem like a genuine addition.
Bringing a weapon like Gjallarhorn back toDestiny 2would be a complicated decision for Bungie to make, especially considering the current balance of the game and the place rocket launchers have in the current meta. It will be important to include a way for players to receive the weapon through a set of challenges, or aquestline like Luna’s Howl, in order to ensure that RNG doesn’t leave people missing out. However, this all comes back to the viability of this rumor in the first place, which is highly unlikely to end up being a legitimate showing of what is coming in future updates.
