ASkyrimplayer has come across an instance in which it seems the tenacious courier has decided to put a hit out on the Dragonborn. Given that it’s a game with anexpansive and immersive open-world, it’s only natural for the protagonist to happen upon many dangerous elements, from bandits to wild animals to soaring dragons to perilous cliff edges. There’s always something players need to keep an eye out for when on a pleasant jaunt across the land. However, many don’t anticipate being unexpectedly targeted by a friendly NPC.

For those who aren’t aware,Skyrimhas a courier that delivers messagesto the Dragonborn. They are known for being quite diligent in their duties, able to seek out the hero of the game no matter where in Tamriel they may be. This NPC’s role in the grand scheme of things is to kick-start some of the quests by handing a letter to the player that tells them where to go next. That is basically all the courier is programmed to do, or at least that’s what one person thought.

In a recent post on Reddit, aSkyrimuser called Shadowhawk0304 uploaded a screenshot from the game that shows a letter that suggests that someone has hired a somebody else to accost the Dragonborn. Unfortunately, in this case, it appears as though the person doing the hiring is none other than the courier. The note does state that the would-be assassin does not necessarily need to kill the player, called Fred in this playthrough, but death is an option should it become a requirement. It’s a letter similar to one that many players have likely come across, though it’s usually not one that seems to have been issued by the courier himself.

While this could be another example of one of the manybugs that have plaguedSkyrimsince day one, this may actually be something that was intentional. Shadowhawk0304 has said this letter could have been sent by the courier, as the NPC may have spotted the player pickpocketing. If that is what’s happened, then it’s quite interesting that the messenger is able to exact revenge if they are the victim of a crime.

It’s also quite intriguing that players are still finding new things about the epic RPG almost 11 years down the line. WhileBethesda is currently developingThe Elder Scrolls 6, it seems there is still plenty of life left inSkyrim. Much of this comes from the modding community, but there are occasions where someone will discover something they didn’t know the game contained in the first place.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
