How to Trigger “A Solitary Resistance” Side Quest and Fight Gammel
The quest involving Gammel becomes available once the “Call to Action” main story quest is completed. Near the bridge southwest of Ouvrir Harbor and directly west of Fort Soligie, you will encounter the side quest “A Solitary Resistance,” which ultimately culminates in a battle with Gammel and his gang of mercenaries.
Crossing this bridge triggers a cutscene showing the nearby town of Coquillage, where the town’s guards are overwhelmed by mercenaries led by a Thief named Gammel. Outside the town, a character named Rolf is seen urging some women to find safety before he confronts the bandits. These women then recruit you to assist Rolf, initiating “A Solitary Resistance.”
The player’s mission is to aid Rolf in his endeavor to reclaim the town from the clutches of the Black Talon Bandits. Upon joining forces with Rolf, who enlists as aHunter unit within your Liberation Army, you will engage in a series of confrontations with the bandits. The culmination of this quest occurs when the player confronts Gammel and his personal guard, setting the stage for the critical decision regarding Gammel’s fate.
Following Gammel’s defeat, he pleads for mercy, sharing an emotional tale about his sister and appealing to the player’s compassion. At this juncture, the player must choose between two options:
Although the immediate rewards for each choice appear similar, with the latter option seemingly more desirable, the decision has a significant impact on future gameplay.
Regardless of which choice you make, you will receive the following rewards for completing the quest “A Solitary Resistance”: Recruit’s Shortbow, Beckoning Bell, Cornia Militia. If you choose to hand over Gammel, you will receive an additional 10,000 War Funds, but don’t be tempted.
What Happens if You Free Gammel?
Choosing to free Gammel leads to him thanking you and vowing to remember your act of kindness. This decision paves the way for Gammel to return later in the game, at which pointyou have the opportunity to recruit himinto your Liberation Army after you reachthe kingdom of Elheim, The Winding Wood.
What Happens if You Hand Over Gammel?
Surrendering Gammel to the town watch yieldsa monetary reward of 10,000 War Fundsin addition to the aforementioned rewards, but precludes his future recruitment.You will not be able to enlist Gammelto join your Liberation Army if you choose to hand him over to the town watch. He will, however, show up again in the future to fight you.
