Since its rocky launch back in 2018,Sea of Thievesdeveloper Rare has managed to steady the ship. The transition to a seasonal content model has done really well for the title, andthe upcoming Season 7is set to change the pirate adventure even more. However, in an early morning announcement, Rare announced that the newest season’s debut has been pushed back to later this summer.Sea of Thieves' Season 7 was announced during the Xbox Showcase held last month. The newest season was set to bring numerous changes to the cosmetic side of the pirate title. Aptly titled Captaincy, the new season will grant players the ability to make massive changes to their ships, such as naming them and changing the look of their cabins. It’s also set to introduce a new form of currency to allow for an easier method of selling loot. The season was set to launch July 21, but that date has since changed.RELATED:Sea of Thieves Fans Want Hatchets Added to the GameIn a developer post, executive producer Joe Neate shares an update on the season’s progress. Aside from sharing excitement and mentioning howSeason 7 was set to bring some major changes, Neate mentions that as the launch rapidly approached, the team realized a lot of the upcoming changes needed more time to be worked on. He elaborates that the new season is set to introduce a bevy of new stats to track, and this requires a deeper partnership between the “Game, UI and Service teams” to make it happen flawlessly. The newest season will now launch on August 4.

Neate also says that this decision was made to ensure the overall fan experience was the best possible while making sure the team at Rare can continue to operate in a healthy and sustainable manner.Season 6 has been a long one for players, he says, but August is set to be a busy month with the launch of the new season and new Adventure coming two weeks after.

Delays are never fun to experience, but with the delay being so minor, most fan reception has been positive. Given thatSea of Thieveshas been a live service product since it’s launch back in 2018, it’s only fair that the team behind the long-standing pirate adventure is given a break in light ofcrunch being a huge problem in the industry. With Season 6 seeing an extension due to a delay, now’s the time for players to wrap things up before the official end of the season arrives in a few weeks.

Sea of Thievesis available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
