Game developer Fractal Projects has created a game calledSave Roominspired by theTetris-like inventory management ofResident Evil 4,which is fixing to receive a remake. The game’s release date for theNintendo Switchhas also been officially announced. Fan reception toSave Roomhas been overwhelmingly positive so far.
Capcom’s fourth installment of its classicResident Evilfranchise was innovative in many ways both from the player perspective with an over-the-shoulder view and its creative take on the inventory system for the game.Resident Evil 4’sinventory introduced a very interesting mechanic obviously inspired byTetris. As soon as the idea debuted in the gameplay for the well-received installment, it instantly became a hit with fans and wasimplemented intoResident Evil: Village.

Save Roomtakes the classicResident Evilinventory managementand creates a whole newTetrisexperience for fans of both franchises to enjoy. The game utilizes the usual inventory management features found inResident Evilgames, such as reloading weapons to open space for other items or combining items so they only take up one or two blocks. Just like with anyTetris-like game, the goal is to place the shapes in a way that neatly takes up space, like putting together puzzle pieces.
The difference withSave Roomis that it will feature limited inventory space, or grid space, for each item to fit into. This is challenging due to the different sizes and unique shapes of someResident Evilweaponsand items. Also, the grid shapes and sizes also change, making it extra difficult to place bigger items into small grids and still have room for several other items and so on. Players will have to place every assigned item in the grid to finish the puzzle and progress through all 40 handmade levels. ThoughSave Roomhas been out on PC for quite some time now, it is expected to debut on the Nintendo Switch on November 11.
This game might be worth checking out for fans who loved theResident Evil 4inventory style and those who are just looking for an off-beat puzzle game for casual play. It’s inventive and something new and interesting within the sub-genre, but it remains to be seen whether the clever idea is fun enough as a complete stand-alone game forNintendo Switch players. Needless to say, it’ll be a strange feeling to organize weaponry without the constant threat of zombie-like hordes and werewolf mutations to eventually worry about.
Save Roomis currently available for PC and will debut on the Nintendo Switch on November 11.
