2019’sDeath Strandingis widely known as one the most interesting games of the last decade. Love it or hate it,Death Stranding’sunconventional mechanicsand heavy emphasis on story has made it a must play game for some, just for the experience alone. Since the game’s release, fans have been clamoring for more content, and now it looks like they might get it, albeit not in the form they were expecting.

These rumors come from Twitter user AestheticGamer, an industry insider known for his leaks. He’s the same user behind the rumor thatKojima is working on a a newSilent Hillgame with Sony. He tweeted today that “somethingDeath Stranding"is being worked on, and “should be revealed this year.” In the same tweet he said that “Kojima and Junji are working on a manga together.” It’s unclear at this time if the manga is a separate project fromDeath Stranding,or that theDeath Strandingproject being worked on is the Manga.
AestheticGamer didn’t name his sources, but noted that they’re someone inside Kojima’s camp. He ended the tweet by emphasizing that everything he’s heard so far are just rumors. Gamers have beenburned by false rumors before, which is probably why AestheticGamer is hesitant to say anything definitive. It’s possible that the upcoming project could beDeath StrandingDLC, or end up being a new game entirely. Still, a manga version ofDeath Strandingseems like the kind of weird and wonderful project that Kojima would embark upon.
Manga and video games are deeply linked. ThePokemonmanga, which inspired the popular series of games, just came to an end last year. A manga follow up toDeath Strandingmakes sense, as it would allow Kojima to flex his literary muscles. However, Kojima is famous for giving players something unanticipated, so until there’s an official announcement, fans should expect the unexpected.
