While everyone waits for the imminent release of theResident Evil 4remake, some have been busy modding the demo that was released not long ago, and a recent one makes it very difficult for Leon to survive this small slice of the game. With thesuccess of theDead Spaceremake, not to mention Bloober Team’s upcoming reimagining ofSilent Hill 2, there is evidently more than enough room in the industry for a fresh retelling of a classic horror title.
The release of theResident Evil 4Chainsaw Demohas given fans a taste of what’s to come when the final release launches on March 24. Already, people have high hopes it will do the original proud, which is looking likely given the rave reviews that have been surfacing lately. With Capcom successfully reviving some other classic entries in theREname, hype is at an all-time high that this modern take on the fourth entry will be just as big a hit, especially given the legacy of the iconic 2005 release.

However, even before the title sees the light of day, people have been getting the most out of the demo thanks to modding. A recent one comes from Nexus Mods user ScoovyHD who’s created a way to make theResident Evil 4demo even harder. Simply called “Realism Mode,” this little tweak gives Leon Kennedy more of a reason to avoid combat, as the mod reduces his health so much that enemies can kill him in a single hit. As can be imagined, this means the opening village section that fans have been getting to grips with is now way more perilous and difficult. A video shows the number of ways the rookie cop succumbs to the Ganados, even falling dead from an axe being thrown.
ScoovyHD has evidently been busy, as this is not the first modification they’ve done. Another one by them enablesfurther exploration inResident Evil 4, opening up a number of sections otherwise that aren’t supposed to be accessible in the demo. However, as these areas are largely unfinished, players can expect to come across bugs and some sections that just disappear into nothingness.
With the game releasing so very soon, not to mention Capcom recently launching a cuteREanime,Resident Evil’s future continues to look pretty bright. The studio is by no means finished with its long-running franchise and with a ninth entry potentially in the works, the world’s most popular survival horror series will continue to reign supreme. No doubt the upcoming remake will only help cement its victorious place in the genre.
Resident Evil 4releases August 05, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
