Summary

World of Warcraftrecently announced it would be fully discontinuing the old Authenticator app on Jun 28, 2025. Players who are still using this old application will want to migrate to the new Battle.net Mobile App before that date, or risk inconvenience and disruption to their ability to log in toWorld of Warcraftand other Blizzard games.

The Battle.net Authenticator app is a two-factor authentification system – a commonsecurity measure for online games likeGenshin ImpactandWoW– that enables players to safeguard their Blizzard account from intrusion. Recently, Blizzard updated its main Battle.net Mobile App to cover digital protection, and began the process of migrating players over to the new system.

However, players who haven’t migrated to the new app will soon not have a choice in the matter. In arecentWorld of Warcraftblog post, Blizzard announced an official cut-off date for the old app. All players using the old Authenticator app must move to the new system by June 13, 2025. Players who fail to do so will have their authenticator removed from their account, and their password reset automatically.

When Does the Battle.net Authenticator App Stop Working?

Migrating to the new authentication system is fast and easy: simplydownload the Battle.net Mobile Appand log in. Afterward, players will be prompted to set up their authenticator, overwriting the one from the old app in the process. If the prompt does not appear, they can also navigate to the Authenticator option in the slide-out menu. Once this is done, players can safely delete the old Authenticator app.

World of Warcraftfans who aren’t using a digital authenticator might want to consider doing this as well. In addition to further account security, players also get four extra bag slots, the Corehound battle pet, and the ability to create listings via theGroup Finder inWorld of Warcraft. Existing users will temporarily lose these benefits if they do not migrate to the new system, so they should be sure to do so.

The old physical authenticator fobs will not be affected by this change. That said, Blizzard discontinued these items in 2019, and with a limited battery life, players still relying on the physical hardware might want to consider going digital to save themselves a headache when they eventually run out of power.
