Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase brought with it plenty of major reveals between old games being brought to the Switch and new adventures set to arrive in the coming months. Classic franchises likeMega Man Battle NetworkandPac-Man Worldwere confirmed to be coming to the console and Atlus closed out the presentation by revealingPersona 5’s long-awaited Switch version for later this year. Alongside these major reveals came the announcement that one of gaming’s most iconic puzzle games,Portal, would be arriving to the Switch very soon.

Since its debut in 2007,Portalhas become one of the most widely-acclaimed puzzle franchises in the gaming industry. Valve’s puzzle platformer tasking players with using the iconic “Portal gun” to warp through physics-based puzzles would go on to spawn a sequel inPortal 2and a variety of spinoffs. Though theBridge Constructor: Portalspinoff had previously come to Switch, the Nintendo platform had yet to see a version of the original game. Now, today’s Nintendo Direct has officially revealedPortal: Companion Collectionwill be releasing today.

Portal: Companion Collectionofficially revealed its surprise launch through a brief sizzle trailer during Tuesday’s Partner Showcase narrated by the series' primary antagonist, GLaDOS. The trailer featured short gameplay segments from bothPortalandPortal 2with GLaDOS revealing that the compilation would be releasing later today. TheCompanion Collectionmarks the first time a Valve-developed game has released on a Nintendo console with the previously-mentionedBridge Constructor Portaldeveloped by indie developer ClockStone.

WhilePortal: Companion Collectionmarks Valve’s first official Nintendo release, fans of the developer have brought their own spin on the Steam studio’s classics to Nintendo platforms. YouTuber James Lambert revealed earlier this year he was working on aNintendo 64 demake of the originalPortal. Another modder going by “ckosmic” has also previously created a playableSuper Mario 64within Valve’s popular sandbox gameGarry’s Mod. Valve’s own handheld Steam Deck has often drawn comparisons to the Nintendo Switch as well, with the two portable consoles sharing similar concepts.

Portalwas just one of a collection of high-profile ports shown off during Tuesday’s Partner Showcase. Alongside previously mentioned franchises likeMega ManandPersona, the highly-acclaimedNier Automatawas revealed to be receiving a Switch port later this year.
