Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare said to feature a Ghost/Steel-type Pokemon based on coins, and it has been previously discussed by leakers as anOP Pokemon inScarlet and Violet. However, it seems the Pokemon has been nerfed ahead of launch.
Those who have been keeping up withPokemon Scarlet and Violetleaksknow that this money is complicated to get. According to reliable insider/leaker Riddler Khu, players are able to get the base form simple enough, but to evolve it requires collectings X amount of things similar to gettingSpiritomb inPokemon Legends: Arceusand other franchise entries. However, doing so will apparently reward players with a really strong Pokemon.

Riddler Khu has previously called the Pokemon OP and said that its signature move had a base power of 140/150 with no significant drawbacks. Part of this was perhaps originally because of how hard it is to get, but at the same time, that’s not going to matter much incompetitive battles inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. However, Khu has said they’ve been able to confirm a nerf for the move ahead of launch, but doesn’t explain how exactly. It could be that the power is reduced or that drawbacks have been introduced, but it’s really uncertain. This doesn’t make necessarily make it less OP if its strongest move is weakened, depending on the rest of its moveset.
For context, Hyper Beam and Giga Impact also have a base power of 150, but each of these moves require the Pokemon to skip its next turn. There are other powerful moves with other forms of drawbacks, such as dealing damage to one’s self, but it’s uncertain what this Coin Mon’s nerf is. Fans will probably just have to wait untilPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s release to get more concrete details on this Pokemon as a whole.
Of course, it’s also worth mentioning that a “nerf before launch” is definitely a hazy area. MostPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers will never even know that a previous form of the move fit this mold, instead of whatever mold it lands in. This is essentially just the nature of game development where anything and everything can change last-minute. This obviously also highlights the differences in experiences so far this gen. Someone keeping up with leaks, however off-base some of the may end up being, know a lot more than thefew Pokemon thatScarlet and Violethave revealed.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetrelease on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
