Pokemon GOhas yet to add every possible Pokemon to the game yet, but it’s steadily been getting there in the near-five years since it released. Currently, Niantic has been focusing onincluding Pokemon from the Kalos region, the setting of the sixth generation of games,Pokemon X and Y. However, die-hardPokemon GOplayers have long been puzzled by the complete exclusion of one Pokemon in particular, Kecleon.
Despite being a Gen 3 Pokemon (Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, andEmerald), Kecleon was never added toPokemon GOwhen Hoenn-region Pokemon started to appear throughout 2017 and 2018, and is so far the only Gen 3 Pokemon to have never been made available at all, not even in special raids or events. However, some fans seem to be convinced that Niantic will finally add the chameleon-looking creature very soon.

This belief comes from a recent piece of promotional artwork forPokemon GO’s Friendship Dayevent. The event itself will begin later this month and is tailored around Grass-type Pokemon. But, while the art highlights the likes of Chikorita and Sunkern, some believe that Kecleon is hiding in the background. Specifically, behind Tangela by a nearby tree.
Pokemon GO Hub has handily provided a closer look and the textured area of the tree does seem to slightly resemble Kecleon’s eye and face. It would also make a lot of sense for Keckleon to be introduced this way since it is based on a chameleon and is capable of camouflaging. This was how players encountered it in the original Gen 3 games, with it acting as an invisible roadblock. Some might argue that it would be weird to add it during a Grass-themed event, considering it’sa Normal-type, but it also possesses the unique Color Change ability that changes its type whenever it’s attacked. However, Abilities haven’t been incorporated intoPokemon GO, so it wouldn’t be able to use it even if it is added.

And besides, it could just be a completely unrelated texture and desperate fans are looking too deeply into it. Pokemon GO Hub has also reported that the forest background is a stock image and people have tracked down the original source, stating that the texture is present there. This would mean that it’s simply detailing in the tree trunk.
It’s admittedly bizarre for Kecleon of all Pokemon to be omitted from the game for so long. But, given its unique status within the franchise, it’s possible that Niantic is saving it for a special occasion. And given how frequently upcoming additions are leakedthanks to datamining efforts, chances are fans will learn of it ahead of any official announcement.
Pokemon GOis available for Android and iOS devices.
