Paradox forms of Pokemon were added to the franchise withPokemon Scarlet and Violetand much recent fan art is inspired by the new type of Pokemon, with one fan designing a Paradox Wailord.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetdidn’t only introduce these Paradox forms as it also features strategy-altering Terastallized Pokemon, in addition to retaining shinies and regional variants introduced in Gen 2 and Gen 7 respectively.

Cyclizar, Donphan Volcarona, and Delibird are among thePokemon inPokemon Scarlet and Violetthat feature Paradox forms that alter their appearances dramatically and can affect their battle strategies. Given the popularity of these Pokemon and the form introduced inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, some fans have lamented that their favorite Pokemon don’t have Paradox versions. Because of how vast the existing Pokedex is, manyPokemonfans have made such creations, with the latest one focusing on Wailord and a shiny variant.

Reddit user El-psy-congroo-01 has garnered 6,300 upvotes on two pieces of Pokemon Paradox fan art adding to the growing list of hopefulPokemon Scarlet and VioletDLCParadox forms created by the community. El-psy-congroo-01’s fan art spotlights their Paradox Wailord which they have dubbed Gnashing Maw, a name that emphasizes its primal design. The usual Water-type Wailord has a blimp-like design with straight fins that help it navigate the seas of Paldea, but these are changed into clawed wings that curve more closely to the Gnashin Maw’s body than the Pokemon that inspired it.

El-psy-congroo-01’s Gnashing Maw retains the Water typing from Wailord, but it gains more strategic opportunities as it’s also a Fighting-type which would make it stronger against Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel-types than it would otherwise be. This Paradox Wailord adds a gruff edge to theWater-type Pokemon, with a red mark going across its eye, jagged and sharp teeth, a red X on its forehead, scales, and four red and orange spikes along its spine. Similar to standard Wailord, the Shiny Paradox Wailord concept from El-psy-congroo-01 swaps the cool blue and red top half for a purple and pink one.

AlthoughPokemon Scarlet and Violetdon’t have a Paradox form of Wailord, there may be many more added to the games in the future, and El-psy-congroo-01’s may resemble what this Pokemon would look like with such a design alteration. According to El-psy-congroo-01, thePokemonfan art originally had a white pallet to look like Moby Dick, but an analysis showed that noParadox Pokemonhad such a pale color scheme, and most had red instead.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare available now for Nintendo Switch.
