Summary

One artisticPokemonfan has created a new final evolution for the Water and Electric-type pocket monster, Chinchou, complete with a Pokedex entry. Over the years,Pokemonfans have been reimagining what their favorite pals from the series would look like with different elemental typings and even evolutions, such as another gamer’snewly designed third stage of the Kricketune line, dubbed Kricketrello. These designs are often lauded online as other players are captivated by the reimaginings, which, for some, are a way to see their favorites in a new light.

Chinchou was introduced in the second generation of the games and includedSilver,Gold, andCrystal, where players mainly explored Johto and, eventually, after defeating the Elite Four, the Kanto Region. Chinchou evolves into Lanturn at level 27 and is one of the more common critters in the game, with players being able to find the Angler Pokemon in several different areas, provided they have a Good or Super Rod.

A user going by the handle JJonnie on thePokemonsubreddit posted their version of a scary-looking new final evolution for Chinchou. The artist is calling this new Pokemon “Langler” and has designed it to align with what an anglerfish looks like. This latest evolution for Chinchou still utilizes the Pokemon’s blue and yellow tones, with the latter color now extending to Langler’s back fin, lower jaw, and eyelids. Additionally, Langler still retains the yellow orb situated on an antennae protruding from its head that glows and is used by the Pokemon to lure other creatures to it in the dark ocean.

According to the Pokedex entry that JJonnie made for their creation, Langler is five times bigger than Lanturn, which gets absorbed into the female version of the Pokemon’s body during reproduction. Additionally, the Deep Terror Pokemon also uses its yellow light orbs for the same purpose of luring and shocking prey like Chinchou and Lanturn. Langler is not the only Pokemon that JJonnie has redesigned, as the artist has also shared their vision of how anew Charcadet evolutionwould look.

JJonnie is following in the footsteps of Game Freak, which bases somePokemon on real-life animals, with an obvious one being Ekans, whose name backward spells snake. As such, the artist’s vision of a new Chinchou evolution was praised by other Redditors for its incredibly realistic take on the Pokemon by including Lanturn being absorbed by Langler, just like the male and female anglerfish counterparts in the real world.
