A creativePokemonfan has recently devised an animated 3D model of Mudkip that looks incredibly realistic. While mostPokemonfan art looks adorable or caters to the cutest aspects of popular creatures, this fan decided to imagine what Mudkip would be like if it was modeled after a realistic amphibian.
Mudkip is a fairly popular Water-type Pokemon. It first appeared inthe third generation ofPokemongamesas one of the three starters, alongside Torchic and Treeko. Mudkip has two evolutions, becoming Marshtomb starting at Level 16, and then Swampert at Level 36. Despite not being available outside of trade in most generations afterPokemon Ruby and Sapphire, Mudkip recently appeared as a capturable creature inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.”
Now, aPokemonfan called Omar Donghi (also known as SubjectBusiness9705) has come up with a new form for Mudkip, creating a 3D model that reimagines the Water-type starter. While Mudkip’s overall shape still looks the same in the new form, the creature’s skin is completely different, making it look a lot more like a real-life amphibian. Also, the new articulations of the creature resemble the ones of a frog, especially the legs. Luckily, Omar alsoshared some earlier sketches of their realistic Mudkip, showing players how they devised the shapes and textures of the 3D model.

Omar Donghi’s latest work resembles arealistic Venosaur fan art created by anotherPokemonfanlast year. While this Venosaur still retained its most iconic characteristics, its skin was much more realistic, resembling a huge real-life lizard with a flower on its back.
Realistic forms for Pokemon come in different types, though, and some fans often decide to highlight aspects other than realistic-looking skins. For example, a recentrealistic Sprigatito fan artreimagined the Grass-type starter Pokemon as a real-world cat. The fan art still looks like a drawing, but it abandons Sprigatito’s cartoonish look for a more down-to-earth cat design with leaves on its face, achieving an impressive result.
Another method for reimagining Pokemon is by putting them into realistic environments. An example of this could be seen when aPokemonfan created a charming realistic Torchic animationa few weeks ago. In the short video shared by this player, which imitates the style of a documentary, it’s possible to see an alternative version of Torchic that looks a lot like an actual bird living normally on a farm.
