One creativePokemonfan decided to give some of the franchise’s Mushroom Pokemon the star treatment, placing Shroomish and Breloom front and center in an impressive new drawing. Fans of the collectible creatures have created all manner ofimpressive Pokemon fan artover the years with much of it focused on franchise stars like Pikachu, so it’s refreshing to see some of the less cuddly entries from the Pokedex getting their chance in the spotlight.
Debuting in 1996 with the release ofPocket Monsters: Red and Green, which Western gamers are more familiar with asPokemon Red and Blue, thePokemonfranchise has grown in subsequent years to become a cross-media juggernaut. From ongoing releases of developerGame Freak’sPokemongame seriesto thePokemoncollectible card game that gave millions of players their introduction to the world of CCGs, to films and television, the reach of thePokemonbrand is truly staggering. With such a massive, worldwide presence, it’s no wonder that the franchise has been a source of inspiration for artistically-inclinedPokemonfans for nearly three decades.

In a charming new picture shared to the r/Pokemon subreddit, Redditor rc1246 showed off their depiction of the Mushroom Pokemon Breloom and Shroomish with a post bearing the hilariously tongue-in-cheek title “Drew a pair of fun guys.” The impressive drawing features detailed depictions of the two Grass-type Pokemon standing beside each other, with Breloom towering over his unevolved, and decidedly grumpy-looking, earlier form. The duo of Mushroom Pokemon were just two of many other classic creatures that returned for the franchise’s latest Nintendo Switch outing, with players able to add both Shroomish and Breloom to theirPokedex inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Redditors responding to the drawing of the fungal pair were largely left impressed with the duo’s depiction, with several users complimenting rc1246 on their distinctive art style. With its heavy lines and comic-style shading, the drawing brought another game to mind for one user responding to the post, who quipped “ThisDon’t Starve Togetherdlc looking wild.” The exaggerated and slightly comical expressions on the faces of the twoPokemonwere also the subject of several posts, with one commenter joking that Breloom’s wild-eyed expression reminded them of the “look my cat gives me everytime I move towards the cabinet where his food is kept.”
After years of playing second fiddle to some of their cuter, cuddlier, more photogenic brethren, it’s nice to see two of thePokemonfranchise’s more aesthetically-challenged creatures get a chance to shine. This delightful drawing was a great way for rc1246 to pay tribute to the pair of fighting fungi, and decidedly less painful than getting apixel artPokemontattooto show off one’s love for thePokemonfranchise.
