Salandit, aPokemon introduced in Generation VII, has quite a few interesting Pokedex entries that give some insight into why only females can evolve. Female Salandit can produce a gas riddled with pheromones, which allows them to control their male counterparts. The males then give all of their food to the females, and their lack of nourishment prevents them from evolving, thus the reason that only the females can evolve. This background story perfectly complements Reddit user JJonnie’s alternate evolution for Salandit. This creative fan came up with Salacrew, a merciless evolution for Salandit that becomes aggressive when hungry.
This concept introduces Salacrew as the Sea Bandit Pokemon since it gathers in groups to look for food on cruise ships, hence why it becomes a Water-Type instead of a Fire-Type Pokemon. It would only be able to evolve while on a cruise ship, but there are actually quite a fewPokemon that only evolve under certain conditions. On top of this, the creator suggests a hilarious signature move that would certainly fit its pirate influences as Salacrew would be able to learn a new move called Funny Drinks. This move causes the user and its target to consume fizzy juice, which would make them both confused but guarantee their next attacking move to deal 1.5x damage and land a critical hit.
What makes this concept so interesting is how well it fits with Salandit’s Pokedex entries. This evolution would be a direct result of male Salandit being forced to gather food due to their malnourished upbringing under the influence of the powerful pheromones produced by female Salandit. In the comment section, manyPokemonfans suggested that this could easily become a male-only evolutionary form for Salandit.
