A new financial results briefing covering the fiscal year briefly touched on the sales ofPersona 5 Royalin the west. According to Sega,Persona 5 Royalachieved “record sales” and the company is seeing a significant increase in the number of digital sales which have continued into the next fiscal year.

Although the company didn’t provide any exact numbers as to how many copiesPersona 5 Royalhas sold in Europe and the United States, it seems that the sales may have surpassed what Sega was expecting. The game premiered at the end of March 2020 as the fifth-highest selling game in the United States, which is especially notable since there were several popular releases around this time, including thesales record shatteringAnimal Crossing: New Horizons.

The sales ofPersona 5 Royalare particularly remarkable since it’s the third release of the game, with it originally launching on the PS3 back in 2016.Persona 5 Royalalso shipped 400,000 copies in Japan during its first month alone. For it to still achieve considerable sales despite many players having already explored the original story is impressive.

This may bode well forPersona 5 Scramblecoming to the west, as well. So far, there hasn’t been an official confirmation that the game’s action-oriented follow-up will be translated into English, although a Koei Tecmo report alluded to an international release. In fact, Atlus West previously released a survey attempting to determine if a western audience would even be interested in the sequel. Regardless of the results of the survey, hopefully these sales numbers will make it clear to the developer that there’s an eager audience waiting to see more of the Phantom Thieves.
