Overwatch 2’s newest support hero Lifeweaver is set to receive several major changes to his control scheme in the coming days. As the headline hero for Season 4 ofOverwatch 2, Lifeweaver is a hit among fans, but many players on console feel his controls are a bit cumbersome.
The main cause of concern regarding Lifeweaver’s controls is the fact that players on a controller must swap between healing anddamage with a d-pad input like Mercy’s pistolor Torbjorn’s hammer, having to stop in place to do so. While these two heroes rarely ever need to swap their weapons, Lifeweaver’s Thorn Volley is a much more important and active part of his kit. Players were also puzzled as to why they need to press a separate button to cancel Petal Platform. Additionally, Rejuvenating Dash, a short dodge that heals Lifeweaver for 25 HP, was another point of contention among players, with many feeling it should be bound to the jump button like Hanzo’s Lunge since Dash gives a distance boost if initiated while in the air. Last weekOverwatch 2’s director Aaron Keller confirmed the team was looking into Lifeweaver’s controls, and now we have confirmation on exactly what those changes are and when they’ll arrive.

Aaron Keller returned to Twitter to reveal a list of five major control changes coming in an update next week to the thorn-slinging support hero. The most sought-after change regarding weapon swapping was at the top. Lifeweaver players on console will no longer need to use the d-pad to change between healing and Thorn Volley. Instead, Thorn Volley will always be readily available as alternate fire, similar to fellow support heroes Kirikoor Moira.
Part of Lifeweaver’s new changes will also see Rejuvenating Dash moving to the double jump input. Since many players were jumping first to get the distance boost anyway, it makes sense for the ability to be tied to double jump, baking the boost into every use. Additionally, with Thorn Volley on alt fire,Petal Platform will take Dash’s place in the control schemewith players now being able to cancel a platform with the same button. Currently, Lifeweaver’s animation when swapping between healing and damage takes a second while he turns his hand over. It will be interesting to see if the animation will be sped up now that Thorn Volley is on a much quicker alternate fire. Of course, with all this becoming the new default for Lifeweaver, the original control scheme will remain available to players via the settings.
With almost every one of Lifeweaver’s abilities about to see control changes in next week’s update, his most controversial one,Life Grip, will remain untouched.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
