AnXboxfan recently showed off their collection of Microsoft Points. Apart from new generations of consoles and technology being introduced every few years, there are plenty of other ways that the gaming experience has changed over time. Concepts likeXbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Premiumhave given fans easy access to hundreds of titles so long as they pay a monthly subscription fee. Once, things were very different, and gamers couldn’t just log on to the Xbox Store to find out what titles they’d be getting in the next month of Game Pass.
Instead, if a gamer wanted to buy a digital product on the Xbox Store in the past, they’d have to use Microsoft Points. Unlike other digital marketplaces, like the Steam Store that allowed users to simply input their card details, the Xbox system required gamers to purchase Microsoft Points. Similarly to how V-Bucks are used inFortniteorGleamium appears inMultiVersus, Microsoft Points rarely equated to the price of the product a user would want to buy, leaving them with some left over.

TheXboxcurrency was phased out completely by the end of 2013, but some fans still have fond memories of buying Microsoft Points cards in a store. One Reddit user known as DLN420X recently posted a small collection of three Microsoft Points cards. Each of the cards posted by DLN420X is worth 1500 Microsoft Points, and they all feature different designs. Two of the cards have a simple Xbox look, one of which features an Xbox Avatar on the front, while the third card has the originalModern Warfare 2cover art on its front.
While DLN420X’s post offered Xbox gamers a look back into the platform’s past, many spoke in the comments about how glad they were when Microsoft Points were ditched. While an interesting idea, a lot of fans stated that the system was too confusing because different countries could buy different amounts of points at a time, among some other small annoyances. Points can still be earned as part ofMicrosoft Rewards in the Xbox App, on PC, or by playing games, but these aren’t bought with money.
Some were in favor of Microsoft Points, stating that they missed how they could buy multiple things to style their Xbox Avatar as well as a few indie games. Another fan also pointed out the wave of nostalgia they felt seeing the card with the originalModern Warfare 2box art, commenting how it felt strange to see considering theremasteredCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is set to release later this year.
