Obi-Wan Kenobiis the latestStar Warsseries to appear on Disney +. Ewan McGregor reprises his role as the title character, now going under the name Ben, as the Jedi looks to reunite a young Leia Organa with her family. Hayden Christensen also returns to the role of Anakin Skywalker, but has mainly been in theDarth Vader suit thus far.One of the few glimpses of Christensen in hisRevenge of the Sithstyle look was a brief vision in Part III, where Obi-Wan hallucinated seeing his former apprentice standing close to him in the desert.

There are other returning characters in the series, although many are appearing in live action for the very first time. The Inquisitors, Jedi hunters sent across the galaxy to destroy the remaining Force users in the years after Order 66, were hinted at inThe Clone Warsbefore becoming mainstays inStar Wars Rebels. Since then, the Inquisitors have played major roles in comics, novels, and video games set in a galaxy far, far away. InStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, for example, Cal Kestis infiltrates the partially underwater Inquisitor base. Obi-Wan similarly visits this location in Part IV of his series. While there, Kenobi discovers a tomb of Jedi killed by the Inquisitors over the years, an interesting glimpse into life afterStar Wars:Revenge of the Sithand a haunting display of evil in the galaxy.

Kenobi discovered what the Empire and the Inquisitors were hiding on their base when he wandered into their tomb area while looking for Leia, who was being interrogated by Reva nearby. The bodies of Jedi past were displayed in frightening fashion, especially as audiences saw a youngling equipped with his youthful robesand training helmet(a piece first seen inAttack of the Clones). This stunning display of power and evil is the type of Sith Lord behavior seen from Emperor Sheev Palpatine, who was said to bask in the defeat of the Jedi and display his arrogance by disrespecting the memory of the fallen heroes.

Regarding why this tomb is there on the base, it’s because the Inquisitors' sole task is to hunt the remaining Jedi. Interestingly, the Inquistor group is mainly made up of former Jedi. This is even the case with their leader, who was once a Jedi Temple guard before being drawn to the dark side. Given his villainous look, it’s difficult to understand how he would have ever been on the Light Side, but so little is known of his backstory prior to this new series that anything also seems possible.

The sadistic nature of the Inquisitors is seen in the first episode of the series, for example, where Nari (played by award nominated director Bennie Safdie) comes to Tatooine to seek refuge from those attempting to capture him. The Inquisitors are ruthless, and this was no different with Safdie’s character, who was publicly hung in an evil display of power and influence, even on an outer rim desert planet like Tatooine. This means that a Jedi tomb filled with these dead bodies is right in line with past behavior of the Inquisitors: they take pride in their hunt, and display the bodies of slaughtered Jedi as trophies.

Many of the facesin this tomb are unknown, or at least not shownin clear enough focus for audiences to properly identify them. However, a few are known characters. One recognizable face is Tera Sinube, an elderly Jedi fromThe Clone Warsseries that had a particularly strong and heartfelt relationship with Ahsoka Tano. Tano was on a mission in the Jedi archives when she met Sinube, who is said to be an expert in the underworld of Coruscant after having spent decades studying them in the library. Sinube was located almost exclusively in the archives due to his old age and lack of mobility, but this didn’t stop the Jedi from venturing out and assisting Ahsoka in battle when she needed him. His fate was never established in canon, although it’s safe to assume that any Jedi whose fate was unknown Order 66 were indeed killed during the purge.

Still, seeing even a minor character like Sinube dead and displayed in such a cruel way was haunting for many viewers, and the tomb itself was a chilling display of the Inquisitors’ brutality. There are other subtle nods to other Jedi in the room, such as a member ofthe Jedi Council that was seen in the background, and briefly, inAttack of the ClonesandRevenge of the Sith. The character went on to appear in other mediums, such as comics, and was described as an excellent hider by the Empire. However, it’s clear from this that he was eventually caught and killed, marking the tragedy that Obi-Wan faced when he saw this tomb.
