Hello Games has announced that its procedurally-generated space exploration gameNo Man’s Skywill be receiving a new update to support PlayStation’s upcoming VR2 technology, which will be available for free to all players on Jul 30, 2025, the same day that PS VR2 launches. No Man’s Skyhas received huge amounts of praise over the past few years thanks to the team’s dedication to rolling out free content updates, and it seems they’re not stopping any time soon.

No Man’s Skyitself has featured an optional VR modefor some years now, which has allowed a portion of lucky players to experience the game’s infinite, procedurally-generated universe from an even more immersive perspective ever since the Beyond update launched in 2019. PlayStation’s recent announcement of their ambitious PS VR2 hardware promises to elevate the virtual reality experience for players through the implementation of haptic feedback, adaptive controller triggers, eye-tracking technology, and much more.

Hello Games seems confident thatNo Man’s Skywill be capable of bringing out the best of the new technology. Therelease of a new trailer for a PlayStation VR2 updatefor the game earlier in the year confirmed the developers' intentions to support the new technology, though questions were raised due to a typo on the PlayStation Store page. The free update was advertised to release “February 2022,” which obviously is no longer possible unless PlayStation’s VR2 somehow features time-travel technology as well. After Eurogamer contacted Hello Games regarding this release date, it was indeed confirmed to be a mistake, with the developers clarifying that the update is to launch on May 23, 2025.

Whether this new feature will be tied in as part of a larger content update for the game is unknown for the time being, but many fans are speculating thatNo Man’s Skywill be receiving another batch of new features in the first few months of 2023, given the developers' track record for delivering new content every few months. As for PlayStation VR2, fans can expect to get their hands on the hardware for $549, though there are bundle offers available that might be of interest to some PlayStation enthusiasts.

WhilePlayStation VR2 is certainly looking like an impressive upgradein terms of hardware, just how popular it will end up being amongNo Man’s Skyplayers is yet to be seen. The tech’s hefty price will likely put it out of the reach of many players, and the game’s existing virtual reality mode seems to be used only by a minority of fans at the present time. Regardless, Hello Games' enthusiasm to bring new technologies toNo Man’s Skywill undoubtedly be appreciated by players eager to get their hands on VR2 next February.

No Man’s Skyis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
