TheNintendo of America divisionwas first founded in 1980, when late Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi appointed his son-in-law Minoru Arakawa as president, with Yoko Yamauchi, wife of Arakawa and daughter of Yamauchi, as the first employee. Following a few different location tests during the arcade coin-op boom and its initial failings withRadar Scope, a young Miyamoto was then brought in to help turn their overstock ofRadar Scopecabinets into something different -Donkey Kong. WithDonkey Kong’s smash success, it helped Nintendo establish its presence and allowed Arakawa to buy land in Redmond in July 1982, where the building still stands today. The longstanding building has made a small change recently, sporting some new colors.

Spotted by eagle-eyed fans on social media, the American headquarters has changed its plain silver and gray sign to something more evocative ofNintendo’s current logo. Posted on Twitter by user Caleb_Bravo99, the silver sign has been repainted to be red, the text and logo are now white, and a gray part of the sign has been painted black. This change makes the sign look more modern, along with bringing it closer to Nintendo’s current and most recognizable branding, as trailers and other promotional material from Nintendo feature a white logo on a red background. A pair of comparison photos were also shared online for fans to see the differences.
