Yesterday,Super Smash Bros. Ultimatefans were whipped into a frenzy when it was confirmed that the next DLC character would soon be announced. And today, said fans were blown away when the short trailer revealed none other thanSteve fromMinecraft. Not only that, but he will come with alternate skins that let fans play as Alex, a Zombie, and even an Enderman.
While the trailer showed quite a bit, including some of Steve’s moves, theMinecraftstage, and his Final Smash, it was still rather brief and didn’t go into the intricacies of the character. There wasn’t even a release date. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait much longer for new info.

In only two days time on October 3rd, director Masahiro Sakurai will be hosting another one of his character presentations. It will begin at 7:30am PT / 10:30 am ET / 3:30 pm BST and last 45 minutes, plenty of time for Sakurai to explain Steve’s move-set.
He will most likely delve a bit intoMinecraft’s history, show off the stage, the music, and maybe some of the new Spirits that will be made available alongside Steve, as these are all things he’s covered in previous character presentations. The Nintendo Europe Twitter account adds that it will be filmed in Sakurai’s home, just likethe Min Min reveal, and he will confirm Steve’s release date.
New Mii Fighter costumes could also be revealed as well, as this has been the case since the first DLC character. Sometimes, these costumes have elicited just as much fanfare as the actual characters, with previous examples including Sans fromUndertale, Cuphead, andVault Boy fromFallout.
The presentation is perfectly timed for die-hardMinecraftfans, as it is taking place just beforethe virtual Minecraft Live event, where developer Mojang will be unveiling the next major update.
Steve’s confirmation still leaves four more characters yet to be announced forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate’s second Fighters Pass and, despite numerous rumors and self-proclaimed “leaks,” fans are none the wiser as to who any of them are.
There are certainly plenty of theories and wish-lists flying around. Only yesterday, some were convinced that Crash Bandicoot would be the new character, due toCrash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Timereleasing tomorrow. Others believe thatDevil May Cry’s Dantewill make the cut, partly due to the series' recent presence on Nintendo hardware.
