A new update for the online features inSuper Mario Partylooks to make the game much more enjoyable to play with friends. Although the Switch exclusive has sold well, one the main complaints from players has been the lack of main game modes and limited mini games in online play. The new update is free and seems to be aimed at improving theSuper Mario Partyonline experienceoverall with new playable online modes and more user-friendly multiplayer options.
Super Mario Partyhas been out for a few years now and returns to the more traditional turn-based gameplay of earlier games in theMario Partyfranchise. However, the game also contains some features different from the rest of the series such as character-specific dice blocks, which can alter characters' natural chances of rolling specific numbers.Super Mario Partyboasts around 80 mini games, although many of them were not available to play online before this update. Now, 70 mini games will work online as part of the improvements to Free Play.

Along with the additions to Free Play, the Mario Party and Partner Party modes are playable online too. Game board play is finally available online, and no matter how much a player has unlocked during their playthrough, all characters and boards will be options to choose from. When playing these enhanced modes, players can now pick Friend Match or Private Game and create password-protected lobbies in order to decide exactly who they play with inSuper Mario Party.
Online play allows up to four players, but there are some system specific requirements when players group up. If four individual players each haveSuper Mario Partyon the Nintendo Switch, then they can all join up and enjoy the updated online experience. However, if two players are playing the game on one Switch, then they will only be able to join up with one more Switch. All players also now have access to the Invite Friend feature, which should make it easier to create groups.
One quality of life improvement missing from the list of new updates is additional controller support. While the new online features should create some fun new experiences for players, the onlycontroller option forSuper Mario Partyis still a single Joy-Con per player. Although several of the mini games make use of the gyroscopic movement, motion controls, and rumble sensors on the Joy-Cons, many players still prefer the space and dexterity options provided by a Switch Pro controller or some other third-party controller.
