Thanks to Croteam and Devolver Digital, theSerious Samfranchise will be returning with a fourth installment in just a few days' time, withSerious Sam 4releasing on September 24. Interestingly, the game will be the first entry in the series since 2011’sSerious Sam 3: BFEand acts as a prequel that depicts the events leading up to the third game.
Those looking for a little more information aboutSerious Sam 4’s story are in luck, however, with a new trailer posted to Devolver Digital’s YouTube channel showing off exactly what to expect from the upcoming sequel’s campaign. As expected, it looks as over the top as ever, with giant alien monsters, caricatured army commandos, and a titular protagonist who’s seemingly built to spout cliche one-liners.

The trailer starts out with a dramatic speech from a maniacal alien overlord, who warns humankind to not retaliate as its hordes of intergalactic monsters siege the earth. Alongside the impassioned monologue, the camera shows exactly what Sam and his allies are up against, with the landscape overrun bya variety of menacing-looking aliensfoes. Evidently, this won’t stop the game’s heroes, who go on to state a crazy plan to stop the alien invasion and repel the hostile intergalactic species. It involves finding a priest, uncovering the Ark of the Covenant, and delving inside to find the Holy Grail (which, of course, is an alien artifact).
The trailer then cuts to Sam undertaking this insane goal, as he goes head to head with the giant aliens monopolizing the city’s streets. Among these are a giant mechanical tentacle that can dig through the ground, a six-armed lizard, and more delightfully demonic monsters that players can look forward to slaying on their journey. The trailer also highlights a number of the game’s biggest setpieces, including battling flying alien ships while in a convoy of military vehicles andjumping into the giant “popemobile” mechto fight a building-sized alien monstrosity.
Those who want to get stuck into the wonderfully wacky world ofSerious Sam 4don’t have long to wait now, with the game officially dropping on September 24 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia. With the sequel ready to hit shelves, it’s clear Devolver Digital has been having one of the best years of its publishing career thus far, with the company also droppingFall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Carrion,andExit the Gungeonduring 2020.
