Details have been kept extremely hush-hush on Jordan Peele’s latest horror venture, titledNope, since it was announced in late 2020. However, with theUniversal Picturesmovie being released this summer, there’s been a relatively steady stream of teasers, trailers, and posters in the last month.
There’s still little known on details of theUniversalfilm, but anofficialNopetrailerdid premiere during the Super Bowl that showed enough to get fans very excited. It also gave audiences their first chance to start thinking about theories and potential plot points. Ultimately there was one theory that proved to be popular after the trailer: the film is about an alien invasion.

ThenewNopeposterseems to potentially confirm this. Keeping on theme with the many blue tones used in previous promotions, this next peek gives a little more information by adding a horse floating up towards the skies, as well as little items. Looking closely, fans can clearly see many paper cups as well as what looks to maybe be bubbles, a pair of glasses, and what looks to be alien plush dolls. The floating to the sky along with the dolls makes it seem like aliens are what viewers should be expecting.
Though Peele first made a name for himself in the world of comedy during his time as one part of duo Key & Peele, in recent years he’s been known for his work in the horror genre. 2017 saw him releasing his feature directorial debut,Get Out. It was a stark commentary on racism in America, and a truly stunning film, that will go down in history as a big contributor to ‘elevated horror.‘He later releasedUsin 2019, which was also very successful, makingNopehis third horror film to date.
Get OutstarDaniel Kaluuya returns to work with PeeleinNope. Alongside him will be Keke Palmer,The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun, andEuphoriastar Barbie Ferreira. This casting was among the first news of the film to be made public, along with the release date and the title.
Though many think they’ve got this film figured out, it shouldn’t be put past Peele to mislead everyone with these promotional works. All that’s solidly known so far is what they’ve released of the plot: “Residents in a lonely gulch of inland California bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.”
